We’re looking for an Electrical Engineering Department Manager in Indianapolis, IN who is excited about working on projects that enable the heart of our clients’ business. Position Summary:
Manage the electrical department as an experienced Electrical Engineer, working with minimal supervision. Apply comprehensive understanding of the routine aspects of electrical engineering principles, concepts, industry standards and their application to the industries and clients. Occasionally lead engineering effort for tasks and provide guidance to less experienced personnel. Provide general oversight of all engineering effort within the department and have a familiarity with the programs, staff, and operating procedures:
• Function as the Department Manager by providing direction and oversight for Department administrative tasks.
• Ensure, at a high level, that the total expectations of the project deliverables are met, ensuring the quality expectations, schedules and budgets.
• Provide department staff forecasting on a regular basis. Manage the department staff level to balance the number of resources with the amount of work. This includes increasing staff, loaning to and borrowing from other offices, or shifting work between offices.
• Hire, recruit, and maintain (through training) skill sets required to execute our work.
• Evaluation of employee performance and make recommendations for career advancement
• Monitor the quality of the work performed within the department and make design or corrective decisions as required.
• Consults with Lead Engineers and Project Managers on technical problems and staffing requirements.
• Assign department personnel to project teams and direct the work of those assigned as Lead Engineers.
• Provide technical guidance and oversight to less experienced personnel as necessary including assisting with their career advancement.
• Act a mentor and coach, provide technical instruction as required.
• Assist in project proposals by ascertaining scope, determining the required design budgets and when necessary, serve as an expert during proposal presentations.
• Research/resolve technical challenges and other unusual design issues that affect one or more projects.
• Work with others as required to incorporate code and safety requirements into designs.
• Maintain effective communications with department members, operations management and with clients.
• Review and approve time sheets and expense reports for department personnel.
• Represent electrical department in weekly office management meetings and monthly project review meetings.
• Drive growth and continuous improvement within Operations
• Business development and marketing responsibilities in practice area
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
• At least 15-years of electrical experience desired; experience with industrial/cGMP manufacturing projects is preferred
• Experience using or familiarity with current design software (such as AutoCAD, SmartPlant, Revit, VISIO, Bluebeam; others) required
• Must have experience in leading the design on a variety of projects of different sizes
• Must have the ability to travel as needed by project requirements
• Working knowledge of ACAD and REVIT
• Solid working knowledge of NFPA 70 (NEC)
• Work collaboratively to achieve overall project delivery goals
• Advanced knowledge of PLC, DCS, and other controls applications
• Advanced knowledge using SmartPlant Instrumentation (InTools)
Ideally, you’ll also have:
• Professional Engineer (PE)
• Strong communication skills both verbal and written
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Proficiency with MS Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access) required
• Forward thinking, eager to learn best practices, and contribute with innovative ideas
• Displayed ability to learn quickly and driven to broaden knowledge base
• Ability to collaborate and work effectively in a variety of teams, including multi-disciplinary teams
• Passion for buildings and construction
