Job Summary and Qualifications

The Infection Prevention Manager ensures high quality, patient-centered care by coordinating the activities of the hospital’s Infection Prevention Program and Employee Health Program in compliance with the established policies, procedures and standards of care. The Infection Prevention Manager directs the development, implementation and evaluation of systems and measures governing the identification, investigation, reporting, prevention, and control of infections and communicable diseases within the hospital, including both nosocomial and community-acquired infections. The Infection Prevention Manager develops educational materials and programs for staff orientation and ongoing training, and serves as the facility liaison for Infection Prevention with division and corporate leadership, as well as local, state, and federal agencies.

  • Directs and coordinates the hospital Infection Control Program, governing the identification, investigation, reporting, prevention, and control of infections and communicable diseases within the hospital, including both nosocomial and community-acquired infections. Develops plans specific to the needs of individual departments, as coordinated with the department directors.

  • Assumes responsibility for annual evaluation and modification (as necessary) of the hospital Infection Control Plan and manual.

  • Evaluates work processes and design on an ongoing basis. Develops, implements, and monitors performance improvement plans to ensure compliance and address performance improvement opportunities.

  • Plans and conducts epidemiological investigations, research, and other special studies related to infection prevention, and supervises interventions based on findings and data. Assesses employees and their environment for injury/illness risks and implements appropriate safety precautions and follow-up procedures.

  • Collects, analyzes, reports, and manages data on communicable diseases as required by federal, state, and local authorities.

  • Intervenes in problematic infection prevention situations, assesses infectious conditions with patients, staff and the environment, and initiates appropriate control measures. Communicates with physicians, staff and administration, and external agencies as necessary to coordinate care of infected patients. Utilizes judgment in establishing priorities for interventions according to the risk to patient, staff, or hospital.

  • Creates and presents reports to hospital-wide committees and boards on Infection Prevention issues, including policy and procedure development, infection trends, compliance surveys, risk assessment, and control strategies.

  • Participates in rounding to assess risk, to consult with staff concerning care for patients with infections, and to ensure compliance with evidence-based infection prevention procedures.

  • Coordinates process to assess and reduce the risk of endemic and epidemic nosocomial infections in patients and healthcare workers.

  • Ensures quality and regulatory compliance for all accrediting and/or certifying bodies for the facility for any Infection Control program requirements. Utilizes Infection Control knowledge as set forth by the Centers for Disease Control.

  • Coordinates daily management of patients in isolation and/or those identified with multidrug-resistant organisms.

  • Serves as the organization’s leader and primary reference for infection prevention knowledge.

What qualifications you will need:

  • Graduate of a school of nursing, BSN Preferred

  • Current MO RN license, or compact

  • Certified in Infection Control (CIC) must be obtained within 2 years of employment start date

  • 2+years leadership experience

  • Minimum of one-year experience in infection control
