Job Purpose:

Progress Rail Services Corporation, a Caterpillar Company and a leading provider of services to the Railroad industry in the US, Canada, Mexico, and Brazil, seeks a skilled Electronics Technician to join our dynamic team as a key member of our engineering team. This position will report to our facility in Independence, MO.

As an Electronics Technician, you will play a crucial role in supporting our engineering, production, and field support teams by ensuring that our hardware systems are functioning as designed. You will be responsible for assembling, testing, troubleshooting, and maintaining electrical components and systems. This role requires a strong understanding of electronic & electrical systems, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.

Key Job Elements:

• Assemble and install electrical components, circuits, and systems based on schematics, diagrams, and technical drawings;

• Perform routine testing and diagnostics on electrical systems, identifying and resolving issues to ensure optimal performance;

• Assist in the development and testing of prototypes, ensuring that all electrical components are correctly installed and functioning as intended;

• Ability to conduct field work involving troubleshooting of electrical equipment and systems, assessing repairs as needed to solve reported customer problems;

• Maintain accurate records of all testing, troubleshooting, and repair activities, including updating schematics and diagrams as necessary;

• Ensure all work is performed in compliance with safety regulations and standards, maintaining a clean and organized workspace;

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including firmware engineers, product developers, and quality assurance, to support the successful completion of projects.

Qualifications and Experience:

• Minimum of 8yrs experience as an Electronics Technician, preferably in a manufacturing environment;

• Minimum of 5yrs experience troubleshooting/testing analog circuits including amplifiers, EMC filters, and surge arrestors;

• Minimum of 5yrs experience troubleshooting/testing digital microprocessor/micro-controller based circuits with experience with digital device communications such as I2C, SPI, CAN and Ethernet;

• Proficiency in reading and interpreting electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical drawings;

• Experience with soldering, circuit assembly, and using diagnostic tools such as multimeters and oscilloscopes;

• Basic understanding of firmware and its interaction with hardware components is a plus;

• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to identify and resolve complex electrical issues;

• Minimum of 5yrs experience in documenting with high level of detail and accuracy for all work performed.

Essential and Physical Activities Functions:

• Strength - Position typically involves work in an office environment with frequent visits to manufacturing environment. Frequent/constant sitting. Occasional standing and walking. Occasional light- to medium­ level lifting or carrying (up to 30 pounds);

• Motion - Position regularly requires standard motions associated with working in an office environment;

• Vision/Hearing Requirements - Frequent verbal communications, including both talking and hearing;

• Work Environment- Position is typically located in an office environment with occasional visits to an industrial environment which may include a non-temperature-controlled environment, as well as exposure to noise (85+ decibels), occasional exposure to temperature changes, heavy machinery and other hazardous working conditions requiring the use of PPE;

• Emotional Demands - Very high level of responsibility. Must be able to coordinate diverse aspects of a project. Requires significant interpersonal skills while sustaining very high standards. Domestic and international travel as required;

• Safety - Position may occasionally require the use of Personal Protective Equipment during visits to industrial areas.
