The role requires a hands-on manager to manage the design, development and specifically the operations of a new messaging service.

  1. Minimum of Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering or related technical field and/or equivalent IT industry experience.

  2. 10+ years of software development experience.

  3. 5+ years of technical leadership and people management experience.

  4. Excellent collaboration and communication skills.

  5. Prior experience working with industry-standard messaging systems Apache Kafka, Apache Pulsar, and Rabbit MQ.

  6. Good understanding of kubernetes infrastructure and modern deployment practices.

What You'll Do

  1. Lead a team covering a small feature area within a service. Influence design, delivery, and operations.

  2. Participates in roadmap planning, talent review, and goal setting. Recruits for their team and develops junior-to-mid- level ICs.

  3. Provide valuable input to the technology strategy, infrastructure and architecture vision that supports the successful execution of the product roadmap and business strategy

  4. Allocate resources, set priorities, and manage schedules for the team

  5. Regularly present development progress and service health statistics to upper management

  6. Provide career management and mentorship to your team of engineers

  7. Inspire a culture of "Always On" Service Operations, including leading and participating in a 24x7x365 service operations on-call rotation

Responsibilities

As a manager of the software engineering division, you will apply your knowledge of software architecture to manage software development tasks associated with developing, debugging, or designing software applications, operating systems, and databases according to the provided design specifications. Build enhancements within an existing software architecture and occasionally suggest improvements to the architecture.

  1. As a service leader, you'll be managing the design, development, and operations of the new service.

  2. You are responsible for your outcomes, so anticipate building and driving an Agile development culture that not only tracks progress but fosters innovation, team ownership, and iterative delivery.

  3. Demonstrable experience delivering meaningful operational and service metrics and dashboards in a cloud or large IT environment

  4. Understanding problem scenarios and customer requirements and breaking it down to workable features

  5. Collaborate with your team, peers, and senior leadership to identify requirements, coordinate delivery, and integrate solutions for new features and functionality, with an emphasis on metric-driven results

  6. Help define service strategy and roadmap

  7. Provide technical expertise, lead by example, and drive for results

  8. Build and grow a high performant and talented engineering team

  9. Manage production operations, and build through continuous improvements by enhancing current architecture and leading improvements

  10. Collaborating and contributing in an inclusive and diverse environment to continuously build a healthy and positive work culture
