Amazon Software Development Manager III, Ship tech in Hyderabad, India

Description

ShipTech include Tier-1 transportation services to generate to vend out shipment labels, carrier IDs and carrier route codes, and carrier manifest documents. Our team is part of Shiptech org that primarily deals with managing multiple components like Change management, controlled rollout management, repository of transportation related entities, etc., that enable self-serve capabilities to onboard a carrier onto Amazon Transportation network when artefacts like label, manifest, etc. are created. We also owns components which are external facing and used to manage 3P carrier operations like forecast, adhoc capacity management and performance management

The Transportation business has grown in scale and complexity over the last few years with the introduction of innovative business models, product evolution and geographic expansion. We have launched our journey to transform to a NEW carrier facing product named Passport/Carrier Logistics to replace a multitude of manual processes and tools.

We are looking for Software Development Manager with the experience to manage all aspects of a mission-critical engineering organisation and a strong delivery record to execute strategic, cross-functional operations and technology projects. This position involves regular communication with senior management on status, risks and change control. Cross-team coordination, project management and executive presentation skills are essential.

As the Manager, you will have technical ownership of day-to-day application. You will be responsible for software functions in one of the most demanding departments within Amazon. Successful candidate for this role will have an established background in managing software organisation, has a strong customer focus, excellent project management skills, great communication skills, and a motivation to achieve results in a fast paced environment. This manager will collaborate with business teams, program/project management teams, and software engineering teams to achieve Operational Excellence and scale our business. Other responsibilities include continuously raising the bar on operational excellence, waste elimination and continuous improvement for the large-scale distributed systems. You should be able to clearly articulate, through data, productivity gains achieved.

Key job responsibilities

  • Lead the team to Design, Develop, Deliver and Operate secure, reliable and scalable solutions for customer features as well as internal operational improvements.

  • Mentor and Manage the growth for a team of 6-8 engineers.

  • Establish a close partnership with a dedicated product team who have established a bold vision for application streaming solutions.

  • Collaborate and Work across team boundaries with other domains and services within Finance Technology and help deliver on business priorities by showing high bar of ownership, earn trust and deliver results .

  • Work in a fast-paced, self-starting culture oriented toward building proof-of-concept and innovative solutions quickly.

  • Manage a minimum of tech debt.

  • Ensure an emphasis on controllership and compliance continues to earn and preserve customer trust.

Basic Qualifications

  • 7+ years of engineering experience

  • 3+ years of engineering team management experience

  • 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience

  • Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations

  • Experience partnering with product or program management teams

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy

  • Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers
