Responsibilities

  • You act as the primary legal contact for assigned clients within India’s Development Center business groups, and you provide support and answer questions for higher-level attorneys; you exemplify legal compliance policy/standards and advice clients on compliance issues related to product engineering, operations, privacy, responseible AI, and evolving regulation across teams.

  • You will identify and anticipate legal risks in the client’s business, technology, and public policy, then develop solutions to mitigate any future risk. You’ll also manage day-to-day interactions with outside counsel, and draft and negotiate transactional documents.

  • You will advocate for Microsoft’s interests by developing relationships with external legal professionals, customers and partners. You’ll also participate in legal, work, and industry associations, and contribute to external outreach initiatives.

  • You will suggest improvements, identify best practices, and provide continuous feedback to make the delivery of legal services within your work group more efficient. You’ll also propose efficiencies to budget management, and model compliance, privacy, and data security.

  • You will collaborate within and across the Legal and Corporate Affairs work group, using written and verbal communication to organize and simplify issues and ideas.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor OR international equivalent degree.

  • Active license to practice law in a jurisdiction and capable of meeting admission requirements in relevant jurisdiction.

  • 5+ years of experience as a practicing attorney OR equivalent practice of law.

  • Prior experience in providing product counselling or supporting through the software development lifecycle.

Additional or Preferred Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience as a practising attorney is preferred.

  • Experienced in specialized practice areas including privacy, cybersecurity, intellectual property or technology transactions.

  • In-house counsel experience, law-firm or secondment experience, particularly within the tech industry.
