Chemonics’ East and Southern Africa Regional Business Unit is seeking a Markets Product Support Senior Specialist. The full-time DC-based (remote eligible) Markets Product Support Senior Specialist for FEWS NET 8 KB will support the project’s Deputy Chief of Party for Market Fundamentals in the production and dissemination of consistent, quality ​ market ​ ​ ​ research ​ ​ reports and ​ associated ​ products. The Product Support Senior Specialist will work both independently and within the broader FEWS NET team to ensure all products are compliant with Section 508 and FEWS NET’s Branding and Marking Plan, lead the preparation of training and guidance materials, and support project communications and dissemination of reports and data submission activities. The Product Support Senior Specialist will also manage the quality product development process, liaising with subcontractors and partners that will contribute to the product completion cycle. In addition, the Product Support Senior Specialist will lead the documentation of processes and methodologies of all steps of ​ ​ ​ ​ report ​ ​ ​ ​ and ​ ​ ​ ​ associated ​ ​ ​ ​ product ​ / ​ ​ ​ deliverable ​ ​ completion in coordination with other Pillars and Partners.

Since its establishment in 1985, the Famine Early Warning Systems Network (FEWS NET) project aims to sustainably prevent food insecurity and famine across the globe by delivering to the U.S. Government and partners early warning on the location, causes, and magnitude of current and future food insecurity; improving the quality and timeliness of information and analysis useful for achieving sustainable food security; and strengthening innovative local, national, regional, and international capabilities to un derstand and appropriately address current, recurrent, and likely future food insecurity. Chemonics has been implementing FEWS NET since 2000, beginning its eights phase (FEWS NET 8) in 2024.

FEWS NET 8 Knowledge Base (FEWS NET 8 KB) is a $65 million project which will create and update FEWS NET’s knowledge base about livelihood zones and market systems on which FEWS NET’s acute food insecurity early warning analyses are predicated, thereby ensuring that USAID’s Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance (BHA) is able to allocate emergency food assistance effectively and in accordance with humanitarian principles. 

Responsibilities:

  • In consultation with the DCOP-Market Fundamentals, lead the ​​development cycle of custom ​market ​​​system ​​​​specific ​​products and inputs in line with program strategy and ​​​compliance requirements.

  • Coordinate overall project communications.

  • Contribute to the preparation of consistent, quality markets reports and other products.

  • Publish reports and other deliverables per FEWS NET branding and marking requirements.

  • Review reports, products, deliverables and other communications as needed ensuring style consistency, adherence to FEWS NET and Knowledge Base-specific branding and marking requirements and Section 508 compliance.

  • With input from the DCOP-Market Fundamentals and Markets Advisor, support the preparation of training and guidance materials.

  • Support communications and dissemination of reports and data submission activities.

  • Regularly liaise and collaborate across all FEWS NET programs to support and inform market fundamentals products, provide feedback on areas of overlapping interest, establish common naming conventions for FEWS NET 8 KB products, support data submission to the FEWS NET Learning and Data Hub (Hub), etc.

  • Liaise with the Hub to ensure submission of all relevant data sets, annual and quarterly reports, workplans and KB products.

  • Ensure timely uploading of deliverables to the Development Experience Clearinghouse (DEC) and the Development Data Library (DDL) on an ongoing basis; 

  • Under the leadership of the COP and DCOP-Market Fundamentals, liaise with USAID, providing updates on relevant implementation progress, challenges, and successes.

  • Manage and coordinate with subcontractors and partners as needed in the service of coordinated and quality product development.

  • Support ​ production​ of visualizations used in Market Fundamentals research reports and associated deliverables, including but not limited to maps and charts. ​

  • Lead the documentation of processes and approaches​ that contribute to Market Fundamentals Reports and associated deliverables/products​ ​​​ ​

  • Supervise the product development process;

  • Support in-country validation processes with partners;

  • Collaborate with DCOP and Markets Advisor to develop training materials to be presented on the FEWS NET exchange;

  • Development of informational blogs with Chemonics communications department and or the Hub;

  • Undertake other duties as assigned by the COP or DCOP-Market Fundamentals.

    Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience; Master’s degree preferred;

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant professional experience;

  • Demonstrated knowledge of agricultural market systems in developing country contexts strongly preferred.

  • Previous experience managing or coordinating a team or initiative.

  • Excellent communication skills and professional demeanor with demonstrated ability and comfort working with a range of diverse technical and administrative professionals across multiple geographies.

  • Experience living and working in a developing country context is preferred.

  • Solid knowledge of Microsoft Windows systems and Office suite, including Excel, and an interest in learning additional computer skills.

  • Experience with Section 508 remediation preferred.

  • Proactive, detail-oriented, and well-organized in delivering on professional responsibilities and organizational commitments on time and of high quality.

  • Capacity to proactively and assertively address issues and changing circumstances adeptly, both independently and with the support of other team members.

  • Experience working with graphic design and data processing software (Publisher, Indesign, ArcGis, Adobe suite) preferred.

  • Experience using reference management software (e.g. Zotero, End Note, Mendeley) is desired;

  • Fluency in English is required; Proficiency in French, Portuguese, Spanish, and/or Arabic language preferred.

    The Salary Range for this position is expected to be: $84,320 - $105,400.
