City of New Carrollton Social Service Coordinator in Hyattsville, Maryland

Manage and provide access to necessary supportive services in the community including case management services as needed and requested as well as develop programs and resources that support wellness for the entire resident population. Works under the direct supervision of the Assistant City Administrative Officer (ACAO) and City Administrative Officer (CAO).

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Required to work evenings and Saturdays.
  • Develop and maintain a knowledge base of social services available to residence of the city New Carrollton and PG County.
  • Develop relationships with the community both the youth and adult.
  • Establish working relationships and partnerships with local service providers and administrators in each service area to enhance the referral process.
  • Maintain documentation regarding attempts to access services and service delivery.
  • A strong record of intercultural responsiveness, sensitivity and awareness, and cross-cultural communication skills.
  • Experience working with a diverse team of social service providers and advocating on behalf of clients.
  • Ability to verbalize and implement therapeutic-focused strategies for children/families.
  • Ability to effectively conduct trainings to diverse audiences in person and virtually. Experience in group therapy with various cultures, lifestyles and the LGBTQ+ community.
  • Maintain a network of local coalitions to establish strong relationships to allow for cross referrals.
  • Must have a high degree of emotional intelligence.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in social work, social welfare, or closely related field.
  • Preferably, at least, 3 to 5 years' experience in the field.
  • Must be detailed oriented.
  • Strong organizational and management skills.
  • Experience with various community resources including specialized care such as mental health provision and housing assistance.
  • Excellent writing and recording skills including completion of various paperwork and filing documents.
  • Creating and leading group sessions.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bi-lingual preferably Spanish
  • Master's degree with certification/licenses in social services and/or Therapy
