Town of Barnstable Communications Assistant, DPW in Hyannis, Massachusetts

Job Description: Provides professional, administrative, and technical, work in researching, planning, developing, implementing, and monitoring communications programs for the Department of Public Works. Provides excellent customer service and assistance to citizens related to projects, services, and information. Working with technical staff, serves as a contact person for various projects, services, and operations; and responds to a variety of requests. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor Degree with more than 5 years of relevant experience in the communications, communications strategy, community relations, constituent relations, and planning; additional experience with engineering and construction projects in Massachusetts is ideal; or the equivalent combination of education and experience. Massachusetts Class D driver?s license required. Additional Qualifications: Knowledge of the principles, techniques and methods of media/public relations, marketing and communications. Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer services, including methods to set and meet quality standards for customer satisfaction. Knowledge of the processes and equipment used in the design and preparation of multimedia graphics, brochures and other visual aids. Knowledge of web development, and of social media platforms. Knowledge of advertising and publicity techniques. General knowledge of Massachusetts procurement laws, contract administration, and project management. Working knowledge of computer applications related to communication and public relations functions. Proven ability to work collaboratively with internal and external team members and constituents. Ability to understand and interpret large-scale complex technical projects for the general public. Ability to effectively tailor technical and other messages appropriately to a variety of audiences. Ability to prepare reports. Ability to prepare and administer grants. Demonstrated ability to meet and deal appropriately and effectively with a large variety of people. Demonstrated ability to plan, assign and supervise the work of subordinates; and to evaluate their performance. Ability to work in a close-knit, team environment. Very strong communication and presentation skills; and skills in conceptual editing, copy editing, and proof reading. Demonstrated interpersonal skills in working with a variety of people, and team members at various levels of Town government and the public. Proficiency in the use of computers including word processing, spreadsheets, database, PowerPoint. Team oriented attitude. Apply by September 3rd, 2024
