Applied Research Associates, Inc. Mechanical Technician (Mechanical Tech) in Huntsville, Alabama

Description

The Analytical Solutions Division of Applied Research Associates, Inc., is still growing and seeking a full-time Mechanical Technician 2 to join the team in Huntsville, AL. The Mechanical Technician under general supervision is responsible in supporting the manufacturing of mechanical prototype devices and/or products. Will fabricate/assemble hardware and mechanical prototypes from drawings, work instructions, schematics, rough sketches, and/or verbal instructions. Will be reviewing project instructions and blueprints to ascertain test specifications, procedures, objectives, test equipment, nature of technical problem, and possible solutions, such as part redesign, substitution of material or parts, or rearrangement of parts or sub-assemblies.

Mechanical Technician Essential Functions:

  • Review project instruction and blueprints to ascertain test specifications, procedures, objectives, test equipment, nature of technical problem, and possible solutions, such as part redesign, substitution of material or parts, or rearrangement of parts or subassemblies.
  • Transport material and in-process projects within manufacturing area and may require utilization of a forklift truck.
  • Devise, fabricate, and assemble new or modified mechanical components or assemblies for products, such as industrial equipment and machinery, power equipment, servo-systems, machine tools, and measuring instruments.
  • May assist and train less experience personnel.
  • Requires constant pushing, pulling, standing, reaching, grasping, bending, and stooping in additions will be lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be physically capable of wearing all required personal protective equipment to include, but not limited to safety glasses, respirator, safety shoes, hearing protection and hand protection as required.

Mechanical Technician Experience and Skills Required:

  • Must have a minimum of 4 years of related experience in fabrication/mechanical systems.
  • Ability to read blueprints, schematics and/or sketches with minimal supervision.
  • With general supervision, be capable of fabrication of complex prototype systems.
  • Loads and unloads trucks as required and may use forklift as needed.
  • Ability to read technical manuals - including blueprints and schematics.
  • Must have familiarity with mechanical systems and safe work practices.
  • Ability to utilize various hand tools, power tools and measuring instruments.
  • Safely utilize tools and hardware using standard fabrication shop practices.
  • Requires constant pushing, pulling, standing, reaching, grasping, bending, and stooping in additions will be lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be physically capable of wearing all required personal protective equipment to include, but not limited to safety glasses, respirator, safety shoes, hearing protection and hand protection as required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a minimum of a SECRET clearance from the US Department of Defense

Preferred:

  • Technical training and/or certifications equivalent to an Associate's Degree
  • Forklift Experience
  • Active / current SECRET Clearance from the US Department of Defense
