Position Overview
The position as Food Service Worker involves providing daily meals for the Bob Harrison Wellness and Advocacy Center and District 6 locations. Employees in this position are responsible for cooking a variety of items providing for nutritious meals.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
(All duties listed may not be included in any one position nor does the list include all tasks found in a position of this class.)
Meal Preparation. Prepares complete meals to include observing meals, seasoning meals and placing meals in food warmer devices. Secures necessary items used in preparation of food for cooking. Assists in serving food as required.
Kitchen Maintenance. Cleans kitchen and kitchen equipment after meals have been prepared and served; stores and handles food properly; ensures floors are uncluttered, clean and safe and facility meets all health code requirements; assists in maintaining food inventory.
Reporting. Reports and documents any observed or known safety hazards, conditions or unsafe practices and procedures immediately.
General. Performs all other related work as necessary.
Education and Experience
Education and Experience
- Any combination of training and experience equivalent to completion of the 8th school grade.
- Must have experience cooking in a large commercial or institutional kitchen.
Knowledge, Skill, and Ability
- Working knowledge of methods of preparation and cooking of food in quantity lots.
- Working knowledge of the uses and adaptabilities of various pieces of cooking equipment used in commercial or institutional kitchens.
- Ability to maintain high standards of personal cleanliness as well as food sanitation.
- Ability to instruct subordinate workers in food preparation activities.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions as required.

- Regularly uses cleaning supplies such as a broom, mop, vacuum, and various other supplies to clean.
- Needs to be able to position oneself to stoop, kneel, or crawl on occasion.
- Must be able to communicate effectively.
- Needs to be able to use kitchen equipment.
- Must be able to observe their surroundings.
Certifications or Licenses Required
- Must have possession of, or ability to secure, Serve Safe Certification.
- Must have a valid driver's license.
- Must be able to pass a drug test.
Work Schedule
- Wednesday - Friday 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
- Some evenings and weekends required
