Job Title Digital Archivist

This contract will be in support of the Department of Interior (DOI) Orphan Wells Program Office (OWPO) to provide support.

Job Classification This position is classified as exempt.

Duties and Responsibilities Preservation Planning: Design and implement digital preservation strategies to ensure the long-term accessibility and integrity of digital materials. Address issues such as file format obsolescence, media decay, and technological changes. Maintain documentation on preservation processes and workflows. Metadata Creation: Create and manage descriptive, administrative, and technical metadata for digital assets. This facilitates discovery, access, and long-term preservation. Adhere to established metadata standards and schemas, such as Dublin Core, PREMIS, and METS. Digitization Projects: Plan and oversee digitization initiatives for analog materials, converting physical records into digital formats. Ensure digitization processes follow industry standards, maintaining the quality and authenticity of digital reproductions. Access and Outreach: Develop access policies for digital collections, balancing openness with privacy, copyright, and legal considerations. Collaborate with researchers, scholars, and the public to provide guidance on accessing and utilizing digital materials, including creating online exhibits and educational resources.

Qualifications 3-10 years of related experience as a Digital Archivist Must have a Bachelor's degree in library science, information management, archival studies, computer science or a related field. Relevant Digital Archives Specialist (DAS) certification from the Society of American Archivists (SAA) is preferred but not required. Other certifications/licenses are a plus. Good communication skills, both verbal and written. Good problem solving skills and able to work well independently. Proficiency in Microsoft (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, and Access). May be required to undergo a standard background check along with verification of education requirements.
