JOB REQUIREMENTS: POSITION SUMMARY: This position is responsible for a variety of manual labor in construction, maintenance and repair of roads and highways on a seasonal basis. This position will be expected to perform work in many areas as needed. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily. Other duties may be required and assigned. Provides for the maintenance and repair of roads, highway, right of ways, and shoulders as assigned. Removes and buries dead animals. Repairs and paints guard rails, reflectors, and right-of-way markers. Works as a flag person to regulate traffic. Trims trees, cuts grass, and removes debris along the side of the assigned highway. Assists with sign repairs and installing warning lights and signals as directed. Reports defective signs and other traffic control devices to their supervisor. Assists with road construction activities as directed. Assists higher skilled craftsmen as a trainee or helper. Cleans and maintains equipment and storage area. Cross trains, where appropriate in other areas of the Highway department and/or other County departments. Other duties as assigned. ***** OTHER EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS High School Diploma/equivalent. Must be at least 18 years of age. Previous experience in the operation of large trucks, construction equipment or farm equipment preferred.
