GE Vernova Technical Lead – Aeroderivative Performance & Operability Engineering in Houston, Texas

Job Description Summary

The Aeroderivative Engineering team is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Technical Lead for the performance and operability engineering efforts for Aeroderivative gas turbine product line. The Technical Lead role is a hybrid position combining advanced technical expertise with leadership responsibilities. In this role, you will provide mentorship and technical guidance to a team of engineers while overseeing the development of an ecosystem that produces high quality models that include thermodynamics, controls, emissions, fuel properties, and operability. The models will be used to cover steady state as well as transient operation. This is a systems level role that will require collaboration with a multidisciplinary team to ensure we meet the growing demands of our business and customers.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Provide expert guidance and mentorship to the team to promote development, improve operations, and drive a culture of collaboration and innovation.

  • Assign and manage workloads to deliver on business objectives, while also developing the skills and capability of team members.

  • Lead the effort to build and maintain an ecosystem of models that enable the business to confidently sell and manage risk on projects and then utilize the models for diagnostics during long term service.

  • Oversee the integration of system level tools used for transient modeling, advanced control, and remote monitoring.

  • Use various data sources to improve model quality and drive status matching of models to the data.

  • Identify develop and introduce engineering solutions that align with the company's near and long-term strategies for model improvements including improved data acquisition.

  • Lead the development and implementation of design practices to improve and maintain models.

  • Foster continuous improvement and how the team works and works with other teams to drive lean processes that maximize efficiency and delivery.

  • Summarize analysis of complex problems into clear and concise communications (memos, presentations) to stakeholders.

  • Troubleshoot and provide diagnostics for units operating in the field using data reduction, cycle derivatives, and other tools to drive the optimization of unit through coordination of field adjustments and additional test points.

Required Qualifications

  • This role requires significant experience in the Engineering/Technology & Customer Application Engineering. Knowledge level is comparable to a Master's degree from an accredited university or college ( or a high school diploma with relevant experience and expert level knowledge)

  • Advance knowledge in the relevant field

Desired Characteristics

  • Master’s or PhD in engineering or equivalent fields.

  • Significant experience in Aeroderivative performance modeling with deep expertise in data reduction, status matching, and NPSS cycle model development.

  • Programming experience especially in NPSS and Python.

  • Strong applied knowledge of gas turbine thermodynamics, controls, emissions, and operability.

  • Gas turbine performance testing experience including codes and standards (ASME PTC 22, ASME PTC 46, ISO 2314)

  • Understanding of gas turbine emissions including creation of emissions transfer functions.

  • Experience with fuel flexibility including high hydrogen and its impact on systems such as performance, emissions, operability, and controls.

  • Experience in data analysis, statistics, and probabilistic modeling.

  • Ability to work effectively in globally distributed teams.

  • Experience in applying continuous improvement methodologies such as Lean to improve operations.

  • Demonstrated ability to think critically and creatively to analyze and resolve complex problems.

For U.S. based candidates only, for purposes of complying with U.S. pay transparency requirements, the base pay range for this position is $111,200.00 - 185,400.00 USD -The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s experience, education, and skill set. This Lead Professional Band position is also eligible for a 15% performance bonus .

*The Company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120% or 130% of salary in certain areas. This position will stay open on the career website until at least September 26, 2024.

We offer an attractive, market-competitive salary package based on your qualifications and experience, starting from EUR 78.000 gross annually. As required by law, we are obligated to state the minimum salary according to the collective agreement, which is EUR 5.571,42 (full-time, remote).
