APT Research is looking for a highly qualified Software System Safety Engineer to support our commercial spaceflight operations. This position is in Houston, TX with hybrid work flexibility.

Responsibilities :
Support design reviews and requirements generation
Review & provide system/subsystem hazard analyses
Review & provide software safety analysis and identification of safety critical software
Review & generate hazard reports and safety assessments including supporting documentation
Integrate and coordinate with internal S&MA disciplines and software engineering/management
Required Experience/Education :
Bachelors of Science degree in a related field (e.g. Engineering, Mathematics, or Statistics disciplines) from an ABET-accredited institution
A Bachelors of Science degree with 8-12 years of experience or a Master's Degree with 6-10 years of experience is required
Experience in System Safety Engineering and Software Safety Engineering
Experience with commercial/NASA spacecraft
Knowledge in safety analysis such as System/Subsystem Hazard Analysis and Fault Tree Analysis (FTA).
Knowledge of software verification testing requirements
Understanding of Safety Review Process including the creation of Safety Data Packages (SDP's) and presentations
Knowledge of the Human Rating Certification requirements and process
Software safety experience in the aerospace industry; software safety experience at a NASA Center is highly desired
Must be able to work in an inclusive and communicative team environment (within both large and small teams), both internal employee's and with customers present.

Security Clearance Requirement:
US Citizenship
Ability to obtain a secret clearance if needed
Preferred Experience
Excellent verbal and written communication skills to communicate well with different levels of management, including presentation skills.
Ability to work in fast-paced, dynamic environment and deliver high quality products on schedule.
Ability to resolve complex problems and develop innovative solutions.
Extensive knowledge of S&MA requirements development, verification, and validation (V&V), and closure.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, make rational decisions, and exercise good judgement.
Possess an interpersonal style that enhances productivity, promotes teamwork, fosters cooperation, and maintains effective working relationships with other organizations and customers.

Work Environment :
Hybrid: Mostly work at home from personal office. Attend meetings at customer location (Webster Tx) as required
Requires ability to provide clear, concise, accurate, and timely communication, both verbally and written
Ability to interact professionally with coworkers, management, and customers
Travel Requirements :
Requires ability to travel domestically (within the U.S.) <10%
Physical Requirements :
Requires sitting for extended periods of time at a workstation / desk
Ability to lift >15 lbs
