Our Engineering Division is seeking a Software Functional Manager or Spacecraft Software Insight / Oversight Engineer to join the team.
We are actively searching for qualified candidates for this potential opening; however, we do not have assurance at this time when the position will be finalized and opened. Because we have strong reason to believe the position will be approved soon, we are proceeding with identifying qualified candidates and conducting interviews.
This is an open requisition for potential future openings within The Engineering & Robotics Division at Johnson Space Center as a Software Functional Manager or Spacecraft Software Engineer. As a Software Functional Manager (SFM) you will:
Serve as a Software Functional Manager (SFM) by interfacing with, collaborating with, and monitoring the Prime Contractor and collaborating with NASA Civil Servants to perform the following activities:
Provide technical feedback on spacecraft products developed by the software contractor
Monitor the contractor work being done during the preparation for launch
Review code for errors to ensure proper adherence to code development process
Review code design documentation to ensure clear and correct design as per requirements
Review software Unit Tests to ensure processes were followed and Unit Tests fully test the functionality
Review Integration testing to ensure integration tests fully exercise the interfaces between domaincode and code from other domains
Follow the software Verification campaign to ensure that the Verification tests pass and that they are sufficient to prove the functionality required of the targetsoftware
Follow and participate in the Validation campaign to prove that the data provided to the software produces the desired operation of that software
Advise and appraise through code reviews, requirement reviews, and any other relevant reviews
Negotiate and collaborate across multiple interdisciplinary teams
Provide status report to senior management as requested
Perform any other oversight tasks assigned by the System Manager
Perform other duties as required
As a Spacecraft Software Engineer you will:
Provide Software Insight and Oversight
Software release planning and estimation
Review lower-level software testing and verification activities
Perform software product assessment for completeness of design and implementation throughout the full software development lifecycle
Ensure NASA requirements are satisfied by design solutions and support production/control board meetings, design and system reviews
Support the development of CDR and manufacturing readiness review products and participate in module system reviews
Interface with NASA and spacecraft system engineering teams
Subsystem Software insight and oversight
Provide engineering insight and oversight support for prime contractor on an assigned subsystem or subsystems
Coordinate with the product team on programmatic requirement change requests, design review support, interface definition and control, verification integration
Monitor system integration, interface management and coordination
Perform any other oversight tasks assigned by the System Manager
Perform other duties as required
Requisition Qualifications:

- Typically requires a minimum of a bachelor's degree in Engineering and may be expected to have a related master's degree and normally possess 10-15 years of related experience.
Technical (General)
Experience with the development of space systems requirements documents including functional requirements and verification success criteria
Proficiency with C/C++ coding and experience testing C/C++ classes and their associated methods
Experience leading a software development project across the full development life cycle
Experience with agile software development and tools including Jira, Confluence, Jenkins, git, slack, SharePoint
Experience with gitlab version control, configuration management, and issue tracking
Experience in risk assessment and implementation of risk reducing measures
Professional
Maintain a professional relationship with the NASA customer and other NASA support contractors
Proficiency with team collaboration tools such as Microsoft Teams, Webex, Skype, SharePoint
Excellent communication, negotiation and coordination skills and strong customerservice attitude
Effectively communicate across a wide range of technical disciplines, with vendors/contractors, direct customers and upper management
Experience working in and fostering a collaborative team environment
Ability to prepare written documents/presentations and to verbally present at various meetings
Must be able to organize and prioritize tasks in order to meet deadlines and schedules with limited supervision
Work in a fast-paced, Agile environment
Can understand and absorb new concepts quickly
Self-starter and able to take initiative and work with little direction
Requisition Preferences:
Prior background in space or aerospace software is a plus
Knowledge of systems engineering principles and associated documentation
Knowledge of commonly used NASA concepts, practices, processes and procedures relating to mechanical and Experience working as part of an Integrated Product Teamto develop and test safety-critical software
Experience with highly autonomous systems
Experience developing software across the full development life cycle
Experience with NPR 7150.2 or DO178 and other NASA or Commercial Airline software and systems engineering standards
Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI)
Software project management experience
Safety Critical Human-Rated Software Development Processes
