Houston Methodist Simulation Technician, Days in Houston, Texas
At Houston Methodist, the Simulation Technician position is responsible for the assessment, planning, development, implementation, management, coordination, and ongoing evaluation of human patient simulation programs. This position will be responsible for identifying program needs and appropriate learning strategies, reviewing learning options, testing learning tools, debriefing teams, and evaluating program learning effectiveness. The Simulation Technician position works with are medical students, nursing students, allied health students, educational and training program leadership, and affiliated institutional representatives.
PEOPLE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Integrates audience learning abilities, adult learning principles and debriefing techniques into program activities. Provides learners with a positive environment ensuring appropriate understanding of equipment and process for simulation.
Facilitates implementation of standardized patient encounters, structured debriefing for small interprofessional groups of adult learners after completion of simulation training. Collaborates with faculty for training of standardized patients to specific cases for performance
Maintains optimum communications with all hospital departments to facilitate appropriate scheduling and coordination of simulation laboratory/courses.
Contributes recommendations for initiatives to improve department scores for employee engagement.
SERVICE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Manages audiovisual recordings for all events in the simulation training facility, schedules recording sessions, inputs student learners into the system. Troubleshoots issues with A/V system, and tracks status of recordings during testing events.
Implements standardized patient program including recruiting, training, scheduling and evaluation of standardized patients.
Assists with set up/cleanup of rooms for simulation scenarios or training and implements scenarios to ensure readiness.
Maintains equipment and supplies for education course offerings involving simulation and the standardized patient program.
QUALITY/SAFETY ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Evaluates standardized patients' performances and checklists, making modifications as needed.
Gives and accepts feedback on simulation program initiatives to obtain desired outcomes. Compiles and assesses trainee data metrics for satisfaction and development for implementing new processes.
FINANCE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Utilizes department resources/supplies efficiently and identified cost savings or revenue opportunities.
Utilizes time efficiently and helps other team members.
GROWTH/INNOVATION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Develops, evaluates, and maintains simulation program activities for style, content, cognitive skill training, application into practice and team training.
Generates and communicates new ideas and suggestions that improve quality and/or service. Identifies unique and creative ways to assure accessibility and availability of clinical education programs to staff via simulation form improving/evaluating competency.
Identifies and assumes responsibility of own learning needs and seeks continuing education opportunities to meet those needs. Completes and updates the My Development plan on an on-going basis. Ensures own career discussions occur with appropriate management.

EDUCATION
- High School diploma or equivalent education (examples include: GED, verification of homeschool equivalency, partial or full completion of post-secondary education, etc.)
WORK EXPERIENCE
Five years of simulation technician experience
Experience with programming for standardized patient simulations
Familiarity with Laerdal and METI HPS preferred

CHSE - Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (SSH) OR
CHSE-A - Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator, Advanced (SSH) OR

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Demonstrates the skills and competencies necessary to safely perform the assigned job, determined through on-going skills, competency assessments, and performance evaluations
Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing the English language necessary to perform the essential functions of this job, especially with regard to activities impacting patient or employee safety or security

Ability to develop, evaluate and maintain training courses
