This is a Senior Counsel position in the Privacy and Cybersecurity Law Team and will report to the Supervising Counsel, Privacy and Cybersecurity. The Privacy and Cybersecurity Law Team houses both Chevron’s legal team supporting privacy, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence issues worldwide and Chevron’s Global Privacy Office (GPO), which is responsible for Chevron’s enterprise data privacy program.

Responsibilities for this position:

Cyber Organization Support

  • Provide day-to-day legal advice to cybersecurity organization and operating units globally on all aspects of cybersecurity risk management and governance, cybersecurity contracting, and cybersecurity regulation.

  • Support cybersecurity incident response activities, including investigations, notifications, compliance, and remediation.

  • Advise on legal compliance in connection with internal investigations.

  • Assist cybersecurity organization in developing training for company personnel.

  • Advise on tabletop exercises.

  • Serve as legal advisor for internal audits for data security and information governance programs.

Regulatory Compliance Support

  • Monitor and maintain current knowledge of developments in foreign, federal, and state cybersecurity regulations and laws as well as applicable government and industry standards.

  • Support implementation of cybersecurity controls within Chevron business units, as required by regulation, and interface with regulators as necessary to advocate for Chevron’s position and seek alignment.

  • Support government affairs around efforts to advocate for Chevron / industry with regard to new cyber regulations.

  • Advise on regulatory filings in relation to cyber issues.

Transactional Support

  • Provide legal advice on third-party cybersecurity risk.

  • Provide subject matter transactional support in negotiating and drafting company contracts and agreements, as necessary.

  • Provide M&A cyber due diligence support.

Law Function Support

  • Lead special cybersecurity-related projects within the Law Function.

  • Support other members of Privacy and Cybersecurity Law Team as needs arise.

Required Qualifications:

  • Licensed to practice law in a United States jurisdiction, preferably Texas or California

  • Juris Doctor or equivalent

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience

  • Familiarity with information security concepts, technologies, and practices

  • Proven client counseling skills in providing pragmatic, day-to-day advice, informing clients of important legal developments, and warning clients of potential legal risks

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • Privacy, cybersecurity, or AI-related certification (e.g., CIPP/E, AIGP)

  • Transactional experience in negotiating and drafting technology contracts

  • Experience in litigating complex or cutting-edge disputes or advising on litigation risk

  • Experience managing incident response

  • Knowledge of laws, rules and regulations in other legal compliance areas; knowledgeable about effective compliance programs

Other Considerations:

  • Willing to travel internationally, if required

Relocation may be considered within Chevron parameters.

Expatriate assignments will not be considered.
