POSITION OVERVIEW

WORKDAYS & HOURS: MONDAY - FRIDAY 7:00 am - 4:00 pm - occasional weekend and disaster recovery subject to change
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
This individual will perform basic maintenance, which consist of ground maintenance, and repairs to structures, facilities and equipment, i.e. housekeeping activities, fabrication and installations, routine cleaning and cement mixing and preparation. Operates power hand tools and equipment and performs painting, roofing, carpentry and plumbing activities. May operate vehicles to and from work locations. Performs additional miscellaneous assignments as required. MUST PROVIDE OWN SAFETY SHOES.
WORKING CONDITIONS
The position requires extensive, near-continuous physical exertion such as repeated lifting of very heavy objects (more than 80 pounds), deep bending, climbing steps and/or assuming awkward positions. There are routine exposures to significant levels of heat, cold, moisture and air pollution. The position may involve periodic exposure to chemical substances and physical trauma of a minor nature such as cuts, bruises and minor burns. Requires the ability to make coordinated gross motor movements in response to changing external stimuli within moderately demanding tolerances; or the ability to make coordinated eye/hand movements on a patterned response space within low tolerance demands with no real speed requirements.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to read, write, add, subtract and follow oral and/or basic written instructions as might normally be acquired through 9 to 11 years of formal schooling.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Six months of related experience are required.
LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
A valid Driver's License in compliance with the City of Houston's policy on driving (AP 2-2).
PREFERENCES
Candidates with a custodial background are preferred. Candidates who can operate commercial cleaning equipment, two-way radios and commercial products are a plus (Burnisher, Mops, Floor Buffer, etc.).
Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.
