UTHealth Nurse Practitioner Pediatric Surgery ( FNP, PNP, acute care PNP) - 2400037N in Houston, Texas

The Pediatric Surgery Nurse Practitioner is involved in the advanced assessment, diagnosis, and management of acute and chronic health problems, coordination with ancillary staff, and outpatient services for complex discharge and follow-up needs in a team-based approach. The outpatient role of the NP includes evaluation, diagnosis, and management of common pediatric surgical problems such as but not limited to lumps and bumps, hernias, hydroceles, abdominal pain, chest wall deformities, pyloric stenosis, and pilonidal disease. Participates, coordinates, and leads specialty programs such as colorectal, pectus, congenital diaphragmatic hernia, tracheostomy, burn, and pilonidal. Designation as an FNP, PNP, or acute care PNP for this position is accepted.

Monday-Friday /8-5 schedule; no weekends, no call. Primary Location: The Medical Center at 6410 Fannin. Houston, TX 77030 This may involve travel to satellite offices.

Position Summary:

Provides advanced nursing care to patients in a clinical setting in an area of specialization under the direction of a physician.

Position Key Accountabilities:

  1. Performs relevant patient assessments and physical examinations.
  2. Coordinates, directs, and implements patient's plan of care.
  3. Orders, conducts, and interprets pertinent laboratory and diagnostic studies and procedures.
  4. Makes medical recommendations and/or referrals.
  5. Formulates, implements and evaluates an outcome-based treatment plan.
  6. Maintains appropriate records detailing the patient's treatment plans and outcomes.
  7. Facilitates patient education relating to medical processes, medication, nutrition, and health promotion.
  8. Collaborates with patients, families, other clinicians, and referral services to assist in the patient's recovery.
  9. Other duties as assigned.

Certification/Skills:

Current Texas Licensure as a Registered Nurse Current Texas Licensure as an APRN-NP and specialty certification as required by the department Basic Life Support (BLS) Certified

Minimum Education:

Masters in Nursing as NP or Masters degree in Nursing with completion of a post-masters Nurse Practitioner Certification Program.

Physical Requirements:

Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently and/or up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
