DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The General Services Department is seeking a Maintenance Mechanic III, who will provide general and skilled preventive and corrective maintenance on various HVAC, mechanical, plumbing, and electrical systems and equipment.

This position will also be responsible for performing the following duties:

  • Will require driving to inspect various systems and equipment and makes required corrections and tests for satisfactory and safe operations.

  • Use internal work order management system to record and document equipment history.

  • Additionally, this person may also perform maintenance duties such as carpentry, plumbing, and roofing repairs as part of a comprehensive facilities maintenance team.

  • May perform other duties as needed.

**Candidates may be required to pass a criminal background check, obtain and maintain federally mandated security clearances where required.

WORKING CONDITIONS

The position involves considerable physical exertion, such as regular climbing of ladders, lifting of heavy objects (up to 80 pounds) on a highly frequent basis and/or assuming awkward positions for long periods of time. There are routine exposures to significant levels of heat, cold, moisture and air pollution. The position may involve periodic exposure to chemical substances and physical trauma of a minor nature such as cuts, bruises and minor burns. Requires the ability to make closely coordinated eye/hand movements within very fine tolerance and/or calibration demands; or the ability to make rapid closely coordinated eye/hand movements on a patterned response space within somewhat fine tolerance demands; or the ability to make coordinated eye/hand movements within fine tolerances with large equipment as an extension of the worker.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Specialized training in principles, procedures, practices, routines or techniques in a specific area or trade which might normally be acquired through up to 18 months of education or training beyond the high school level. Vocational competence in the operation of mechanical or electronic equipment may be required.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

One year of experience in building or mechanical maintenance is required.

LICENSE REQUIREMENTS

May require a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

PREFERENCES

Preference will be given to candidates with knowledge and working experience with HVAC systems and with the applicable licensing and or certifications.

A valid driver license is a plus. May be required to travel to different locations.

Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.
