Position Summary:
Responsible for overseeing all aspects of daily therapeutic programming for program patients and maintaining an environment that promotes health.
Location: Dunn Behavioral Sciences Center/HCPC at UTHealth Houston

Status: Full-Time
FLSA: Exempt
Position Key Accountabilities:
Assists in the ongoing development and evaluation of the division’s outpatient program as it relates to recreational therapy needs and processes.
Assumes primary responsibility for ensuring the program maintains an environment that is safe and promotes the health and wellness of the patient.
Responsible for daily therapeutic recreational programming for all program patients.
Conducts skills training and assists with group therapy as needed.
Works closely with the interdisciplinary team for coordination of care. Attends regular interdisciplinary team meetings.
Coordinates and oversees all aspects of the division’s volunteer program and provides supervision to volunteers when they are on-site.
Maintains appropriate clinical documentation on a daily basis.
Provides direct support and supervision to other program recreational therapists, recreational therapy interns and recreational therapy practicum students.
Stays up-to-date on evidence-based interventions and promising practices for the treatment of patients and families with chronic medical conditions and mental health diagnosis.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Certification/Skills:
Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist by the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC) or Certified Child Life Specialist by the Association of Child Life Professionals.
Minimum Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Therapeutic Recreation or Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in therapeutic recreation or related field.
Minimum Experience:
Three years of relevant experience in the field of therapeutic recreation.
Physical Requirements:
Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently and/or up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
Security Sensitive:
This job class may contain positions that are security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of Texas Education Code § 51.215
Residency Requirement:
Employees must permanently reside and work in the State of Texas.
