Position Summary
The Financial Controller works closely with the CFO and undertakes all aspects of financial management. This includes corporate accounting, regulatory and financial reporting, budget and forecast preparation, as well as development of internal control policies and procedures. The controller’s responsibilities will also include financial risk management.
Duties/Responsibilities
Manages the Accounting team to ensure all financial processes and procedures are adhered to and executed in accordance with company policy
Responsible for month-end close process completed in accordance with U.S. GAAP
Responsible for the accuracy of the income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow statement
Responsible for reconciliation of all balance sheet accounts that include appropriate supporting documentation.
Manages payroll activities and ensures proper controls exist
Manages statutory regulatory requirements and ensures timely submission in accordance with statutory requirements.
Manages the coordination and activities of independent auditors ensuring all audit issues are resolved and all compliance issues achieved. Coordinates with auditors in preparation of the annual financial statements including any statutory reporting requirements
Oversees training needs of the accounting department and raises awareness and knowledge of financial matters
Assists CFO with the maintenance of systems and internal controls to safeguard the financial assets of the organization
Assists CFO with developing an annual plan
Assists department with continuous improvement process to enhance processes and procedures
Provides support for ad-hoc financial projects and analysis along with financial presentations as required to support initiatives
Manage Accounts Receivable, Payable, Payroll, and Staff Accountants
Assist in the development of initiatives to achieve strategic objectives
Required Skills/Abilities
Expert Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP’s, Macros, etc.) and other MS Office Suite applications
Experience with report writing
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Diligence with an especially analytical and audit-oriented mindset
Creative problem solving
Independent initiative-taker with a strong commitment to successful completion
Experience coaching and developing direct reports and teams
Must be able to take direction and take charge of completing projects and routine tasks
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business administration, or equivalent business experience and 10+ years of recent progressively responsible experience; strong GAAP knowledge
C PA (required)
Solid management skills leading teams, with a track record of mentoring/growing team members with the ability to lead and motivate others
Experience in Financial planning & analysis
Experience in Multi-entity Corporate Accounting
Supervisory Responsibilities
Trains Accounting department employees in the company’s policies, procedures, and best practices
Organizes and oversees the schedules and work of the accounting department
Handles discipline and termination of accounting department employees as needed in accordance with company policy
