Transport Engineer Spec I:Performs advanced and specialized drafting, calculations and design work; performs field work; uses automated systems; learns specialized techniques. Design activity is overseen by a licensed professional engineer or registered architect who has final approval authority for projects. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.Transport Engineer Spec II:Performs advanced and specialized drafting, calculations and design work; performs field work; uses automated systems; learns specialized techniques; trains and reviews the work of others. Design activity is overseen by a licensed professional engineer or registered architect who has final approval authority for projects. Employees at this level establish their own work plan and priorities to meet set objectives. Issues are rarely referred to the supervisor but are handled at the occurrence.Essential Duties:Transport Engineer Spec I:Attends specialized design schools.Learns specialized design and project development techniques.Performs advanced and specialized design work.Prepares quantity summaries, hydraulic and utility studies and right-of-way maps.Prepares roadway design, traffic control, lighting, signal, and building plans.Reviews entire sets of plans for format, drafting and calculation errors and correlation of plans and specifications.Reviews work done by others for drafting and calculation errors.Uses additional automated design tools or specialized design procedures in areas including bridge/culvert detailing, traffic management, geometric design, signal lighting design, retaining walls and building design.Uses automated programs, interactive graphics and the Design and Construction Information System.Performs other job responsibilities as assigned. Transport Engineer Spec II:Learns specialized design and project development techniques.Performs advanced and specialized design work.Performs advanced and specialized drafting and calculations in support of design activities; develops graphic presentations that include distinctive design features.Prepares quantity summaries, hydraulic and utility studies and right-of-way maps.Prepares roadway design, traffic control, lighting, signal, and building plans.Reviews work done by others for drafting and calculation errors.Trains less experienced technicians.Uses additional automated design tools or specialized design procedures in areas including bridge/culvert detailing, traffic management, geometric design, signal lighting design, retaining walls and building design.Uses automated programs, interactive graphics and the Design and Construction Information System.Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
