The Petrochemicals division is the cornerstone of BASF’s petrochemical based value chains throughout the regions. With a focus on manufacturing and marketing a diverse range of high-quality basic chemicals and tailored specialties, the division serves both downstream BASF businesses and external customers.

In the capacity of Director of CO2 Management & Strategy for the North American Petrochemicals Division, based at our Houston, TX site, you will assume responsibility for spearheading the decarbonization strategy within the Petrochemicals division and our joint venture, BTP (BASF Total Energies JV). Alongside this, you will oversee the management of significant Capital Expenditure (Capex) assets ranging from $100 million to $1.5 billion.

Leading a team of 5 direct reports, you will be instrumental in driving impactful initiatives to advance the evaluation of BASF's biocircular feedback. This will involve overseeing and coordinating several large-scale sustainability projects aimed at achieving our sustainability objectives.

Your role as Director of CO2 Management & Strategy will require strong leadership skills, strategic vision, and the ability to navigate complex challenges in the pursuit of sustainable solutions within the petrochemicals industry.

As a Director of CO2 Management and Strategy, You Create Chemistry By...

  • Developing and implementing strategies to reduce carbon emissions within the petrochemical division and associated joint ventures in the NA region.

  • Aligning CO2 reduction strategies and sustainability initiatives across the organization, accommodating varying levels of expertise on sustainability.

  • Staying abreast of sustainability market trends, drivers, different technologies, investments, and understand willingness to Pay (WtP) in North America.

  • Overseeing projects leading to sustainable products such as Basic Olefins, Superabsorbent Polymers, Acrylics, Oxo-Alcohols, and Plasticizers.

  • Supporting downstream businesses such as Dispersions, Performance Materials, and Care Chemicals with sustainable feedstocks.

  • Leading projects focused on converting bioethanol to olefins and evaluate bio feedstock options for the cracker.

  • Assisting in the deployment of sustainability platforms across CPN (SAP/SCOTT/MELI/CONAN).

  • Contributing and/or leading sustainability projects and secure funding opportunities from agencies such as the Department of Energy (DoE).

  • Managing internal stakeholders effectively, navigating organizational complexities within various divisions.

  • Implementing plans for sustainable solutions, educating and engaging internal teams on sustainability practices

If you...

  • Hold a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science and/or a PhD in Chemistry or Engineering.

  • Have +10 years of experience in a combination of Upstream and Downstream businesses.

  • Possess technical and professional experience in energy transition and sustainability implementation.

  • Count with proven leadership skills.

  • Be comfortable with ambiguity, as the petrochemical industry is constantly evolving and facing new challenges. The ability to navigate and adapt to changing circumstances, think critically, and make informed decisions in uncertain situations is highly valued.
