Position summary

We are seeking an experienced Director of New Product Introduction (NPI) who will lead a team of technical sourcing engineers to be engaged with R&D, Manufacturing Engineering, Procurement, Sourcing, Supply Chain, Operations and Product Management teams during the design phase with a focus on driving preferred suppliers, materials, and influencing design in support of setting and delivering a product’s target cost. The role requires a deep understanding of product design, procurement, manufacturing, as well as a strong knowledge of should-cost analysis, financial modeling, and collaboration across multiple functions, and divisions.

Key Responsibilities:

• Ensure technical sourcing engineer coverage for NPI activities focused on delivering high-quality, low-cost products.

• Set an effective structure and define clear roles and responsibilities for the team, handle workloads and career development, and set clear direction for assigned projects.

• Work with Finance & Product Management to develop, monitor, and meet cost targets according to the NPI project plan. Support detailed communication and explanation to senior executives on high dollar project expenses.

• Develop and maintain working relationships with global procurement, operations, and supply chain partners through the NPI phase to ensure supply continuity, material readiness, and design for manufacturing / quality / service.

• Lead efforts to resolve technical issues in NPI phase teams (engineering, hardware quality, manufacturing test, suppliers and contract manufacturing partners).

• Connect manufacturing, quality, supply, and service lessons-learned from existing in-production products and from contract manufacturers / suppliers back into the NPI projects to ensure optimized new product design.

• Support R&D in the NPDI process to ensure new products are ready for launch and manufacturable in a steady-state production environment

• Work with Category Sourcing to ensure engineers are using approved suppliers, preferred components (using the Online Components Catalog and PCBA lifecycle management)

• Lead the NPI team in driving best practices and measuring performance through agreed upon Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).

Qualifications:

• 15+ years of relevant industry experience in engineering, with prior experience in new product introduction.

• Must have at least 5 years as a people leader, preferably at the Director level.

• Bachelor’s degree required in engineering.

• Exceptional interpersonal skills. Able to deliver clear messages to a wide variety of audiences.

• Extensive experience in managing teams in large geographical regions.

• Proven success leading cost savings initiatives in sophisticated environments.

• Excellent conceptual problem-solving skills with ability to bring pragmatic scope and structure to vaguely defined problems, and manage execution.

• Results orientation, data driven

• Strong leadership skills with an ability to influence different styles.

• Experienced in navigating ambiguity and change with a global mindset.
