SUMMARY
Impacts dental care of the patient by applying the methods and techniques used in cleaning and caring for human teeth and for teaching proper care of teeth and gums.
JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES
Dental Hygiene
- Removes accumulated tartar deposits, accreditations, or stains from natural or restored surfaces of teeth
Preventive Management
- Performs preventive treatments, such as topical applications of drugs to surface tissue and to exposed surfaces of teeth. advises and instructs patients on proper home care and treatment of teeth and gums.
Schedu le Maintenance
- Maintains records of services rendered under supervision of dentist
Communication
- Ability to effectively communicate with all team members of the oral oncology team regarding treatment plan through verbal and written documentation.
Demonstrates acceptable productivity and practices cost containment safely and effectively.
Prioritizes and completes all work in an effective and efficient manner.
Demonstrates initiative, resourcefulness and flexibility.
Effectively and efficiently uses time, equipment and supplies.

Education
Required: High school diploma or equivalent. Completion of an approved dental hygienist training program.
Certification
Registered Dental Hygienist with the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners.
