Workdays & Hours: MONDAY –THURSDAY 40 hours/week

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Assist in the daily activities of EMS as delegated by the EMS Physician Director and EMS Associate Physician Director.

  • Provide on-scene quality assurance, medical direction, and supervision.

  • Participate in online medical control on a regularly scheduled basis.

  • Educate, train, and examine firefighter EMT's and Paramedics.

  • Participate in quality assurance/quality improvement activities.

  • Initiate and directly assist in various research projects.

  • Represent the City of Houston Fire Department Emergency Medical Services at the local, state, and national EMS meetings.

  • Participate in a leadership role for Mass Gathering/Mass Casualty planning.

  • Participate in the Tactical Medical Program with the Houston Police Department.

WORKING CONDITIONS

The position occasionally requires stooping or bending. Occasional very light lifting, such as three or four reams of papers or books (up to 20 pounds or an equivalent weight) may be required. There are routine exposures to significant levels of heat, cold, moisture, and air pollution. The position may involve periodic exposure to chemical substances and physical trauma of a minor nature such as cuts, bruises, and minor burns.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Requires a M.D. from a college accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education or a D. O. from a college accredited by the American Osteopathic Association, as well as medical board certification or eligibility in a medical specialty.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Two years of experience in pre-hospital emergency care, trauma care, EMS research and teaching or a closely related field.

LICENSE

Requires a license to practice medicine in the State of Texas within six months of the time of hire.

Must have a valid Texas Driver's License and compliance with the City of Houston policy on driving (AP2-2).

PREFERENCES

PREFERENCES

Preference will be given to applicants who have successfully completed an Emergency Medicine Residency program and have completed an ACGME Accredited EMS Fellowship program.

Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.
