THE OPPORTUNITY

Sr. Accounting Manager based in Houston, TX. This position is a supervisory role within the Accounting Department and will have oversight and accountability for all financial controls, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and reporting. This position reports to the Group Controller.

The ideal candidate for this position will be someone with prior supervisory responsibilities, with the ability to manage the accounting department with full responsibility for its work product. Ideally, this person will also have the desire over time to grow into a larger role within the company, with added responsibilities. You must be a self-starter, self-managed, capable of handling multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment and has a strong acumen of accounting practices and financial controls.

WHAT YOU GET TO DO EVERY DAY

  • Collaborate closely and participate in strategic financial planning sessions.

  • Manage and enhance internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure the integrity of financial data.

  • Supervise and participate in all department tasks, oversee the recording, tracking, and reporting of financial information, and direct the work of other accounting department team members.

  • Maintain a thorough understanding of the financial stability and cash position of the business on an ongoing/daily basis.

  • Must have complete comprehension of the financial reporting and general ledger structure, in order to have awareness of any anomalies or changes.

  • Perform and supervise monthly financial close procedures, including ensuring all costs incurred are properly recorded, reviewing journal entries, account balance reconciliations and report preparation.

  • Manage and direct all month-end activities. Ensuring accuracy and timeliness of all monthly, quarterly, and year-end close activities/reporting.

  • Assist the Controller in the daily/weekly banking requirements.

  • Supports Controller in budget and forecasting activities.

  • Perform balance sheet reconciliations and research discrepancies.

  • Manage intercompany transactions, confirm sister company balances at month end.

  • Prepare monthly sales and use tax returns and required amendments and exception certificates.

  • Monitors and analyzes department work to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining high level of accuracy.

  • Advises staff regarding the handling of non-routine reporting transactions.

  • Responds to inquiries from the controller, corporate controller, and other managers regarding financial results, special reporting requests and the like.

  • Prepare detailed journal entries and account analyses.

  • Work with the controller to ensure a clean and timely year-end audit.

  • Work closely with the controller to analyze company and product family profitability (contribution margin, gross margin, EBITDA) and suggest areas for improvement.

  • Supervise, direct, and mentor AP and AR staff.

  • Support the controller with special projects and workflow process improvements

  • Assure appropriate use of the company ERP system and improve processes to enhance efficiency. Be a change-agent in support of new ERP practices.

    Requirements

WHO WILL GET THIS GREAT JOB?

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.

  • CPA highly preferred, or Master’s in Business Administration, Accounting, or Finance Concentration – preferred.

  • 3+ years in a senior accounting role or management of an accounting department required.

  • 5+ years prior experience in the financial reporting/general ledger area.

  • Proficient understanding of manufacturing cost accounting and how a transaction moves through the process.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and experience working within diverse, multicultural teams.
