WM Accounting Manager - Investments & Other Business Support in Houston, Texas

I. Job Summary

The Investments and Other Business Support (“IOBS”) Accounting Manager is responsible for the day-to-day management and continuous operation of the accounting organization that is primarily responsible for our various investments and the accounting for certain of our services and solutions that are supplementary to our current operations.

II. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other minor duties may be assigned.

  • Actively plans and manages the month-end close process for areas of responsibility including: revenue recognition, investments (fair value market alternative, equity method, etc.), accruals, balance sheet reconciliations and variance analysis.

  • Analyzes operating results in terms of costs, budgets, operating trends and increased profit opportunities for the business and establishes proper measures of performance.

  • Evaluates proposed new investments or agreements and provides guidance to the business on the financial impacts of different structures under US GAAP.

  • Works closely with Operations and Management teams, providing financial support and summarizing financial results.

  • Ensures an appropriate control environment and compliance with policies and procedures while driving operation efficiency across all areas of responsibility.

  • Develops budgets and forecasts with operations and assists in analyzing variances.

  • Reviews and evaluates work to ensure quality, timeliness and ensures quality control in adherence to policies and procedures.

  • Oversees personnel needs of the department including selecting, coaching, and training employees and evaluating employee performance. Provides input into termination, compensation, and promotion decisions.

  • Organizes and schedules all necessary resources required to accomplish activities.

III. Supervisory Responsibilities

The highest level of supervisory skills required in this job is the management of supervisory employees. This includes:

  • Direct supervision of 4 full-time employees;

IV. Qualifications

The requirements listed below are representative of the qualifications necessary to perform the job.

A. Education and Experience

  • Education: Bachelor's degree (accredited) in Accounting, Business Administration or similar area of study, or in lieu of degree, High School Diploma or GED (accredited) and 4 years of relevant work experience.

  • Experience: 7 years of relevant work experience (in addition to education requirement).

B. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations or Other Requirements

  • None required.

  • Preferred: Certified Public Accountant, or equivalent certification

C. Other Knowledge, Skills or Abilities Required

  • Must be located in the Houston area and open to commuting to downtown Houston

  • Must be authorized to work in the US.

  • Ability to travel 10%

  • Preferred:

  • Understanding of monthly accounting cycle, best practices and data flow among financial systems.

  • Knowledge of and responsibility for compliance with SOX requirements.

  • Presentation and communication skills with a comfort preparing and presenting information to effectively collaborate across functional teams.

  • Critical thinker and collaborative problem solver with excellent analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving skills

  • Knowledge of US GAAP and SEC rules and regulations is required.

  • Ability to perform well under pressure and in a high-volume and changing environment.

  • Organizational agility, knows how to get things done through formal channels and informal networks, with entrepreneurial drive and the ability to work in a dynamic environment with minimal hierarchy.
