Job Description Summary

Michigan Technological University’s Department of Mechanical Engineering-Engineering Mechanics (ME-EM) invites applications for a non-tenure-track Assistant Teaching Professor position. We seek candidates with expertise in mechanical engineering in general and particularly in dynamic systems, noise control, digital signal processing, instrumentation, and industrial based engineering experience to support senior design teams.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned)

Teach undergraduate and graduate mechanical engineering courses.

Duties may include service on committees.

Conduct outreach activities.

Assist with the department's assessment.

Integrate safety practices into daily activities and commit to learning about continuous improvement strategies and applying them to everyday work.

Required Education, Certifications, Licensures (minimum requirements)

PhD in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field.

Required Experience (minimum requirements)

Classroom teaching experience.

Expertise or experience in teaching a range of mechanical engineering topics including heat transfer, fluids, and mechanics of materials.

Desirable Education and/or Experience

Required Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities (minimum requirements)

Knowledge of experimental measurements and numerical simulations of mechanical engineering-type systems.

Desirable Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities

Knowledge of topics that can apply to aerospace-related courses as well such as CFD, flow stability, and boundary layer analysis is desirable.

Ability to use a learning management system to manage course schedules and teaching materials.

Demonstrated success in, or potential future contributions to, working with persons from diverse backgrounds, creating a sense of belonging, and fostering a fair, objective, welcoming place to work for persons with a wide variety of personal characteristics and viewpoints.

The work environment is that of a typical office and/or classroom setting. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.
