Job Description Summary

 

The Department of Civil, Environmental, and Geospatial Engineering at Michigan Technological University invites applications for an assistant professor tenure-track faculty position in the area of structural engineering. Applicants for the position are required to have a PhD in civil engineering or a closely related discipline. Priority research areas include structural asset management, structural rehabilitation, bridge design and management, and artificial intelligence (AI) enabled civil structural design.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned)

 

Teach both undergraduate and graduate level courses. Develop a sustainable externally funded research program in one or more of the priority research areas (i.e., structural asset management, structural rehabilitation, bridge design and management, and AI-enabled civil structural design). Be recognized by your peers for your excellence in research and creation of knowledge. Publish research in peer-reviewed journals. Foster and contribute to a collaborative DEIS culture within the workplace. Engage in professional service activities within the department, university, community, and technical organizations. Employees are expected to apply safety-related knowledge, skills, and practices to everyday work and commit to learning about continuous improvement strategies and applying them to everyday work.

 

 

Required Education, Certifications, Licensures (minimum requirements)

 

A Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a closely related discipline and a PhD in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a closely related discipline.

 

 

Required Experience (minimum requirements)

 

Demonstrated potential for excellence in research, teaching, and scholarship in structural engineering.

 

 

Desirable Education and/or Experience

 

Experience in conducting research in one or more of the target areas (i.e., structural asset management, structural rehabilitation, bridge design and management, and AI-enabled civil structural design). Experience in classroom teaching, designing, and developing a new course at the university level. Experience in leading and advising a research group. Writing research proposals and publishing peer-reviewed papers. Registration as a professional engineer or the ability to become registered.
