Grand County EMT - Basic IV in Hot Sulphur Springs, Colorado

This position is responsible for administering basic life support care to sick and injured persons in pre-hospital settings working as a member of the emergency medical team.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Responds to instructions from emergency medical dispatcher and monitors communication contact. Checks ambulance for readiness; inspects vehicles mechanical condition, emergency medical equipment, medications, and supplies. Assists in assessing nature and extent of illness or injury to establish and prioritize medical procedures to be followed or need for additional assistance. Administers prescribed Basic and IV (intravenous authorization) life support treatment at site of emergency, or in ambulance. Administers basic airway management, oxygen therapy, medical and trauma emergency care, and basic EKG monitoring/interpretation according to protocol, as experience and training are completed. Administers and monitors Normal Saline IV therapy, Dextrose, and/or Saline Locks if indicated in the field, as experience and training are complete Manages Biohazardous materials. Assists in controlling crowds, securing scene safety, extricating victims, protecting valuables, and other duties at scene of catastrophe. Assists treatment center admitting personnel to obtain and record information related to patient's vital statistics and circumstances of emergency. Completes all paperwork according to standard operating procedures. Serves on standby for major events such as concerts, vaccinations and other mass gatherings. Participates in regular upkeep and maintenance of stations. Serves on medical standby to any Emergency response teams, tactical police search and seizure, apprehension, warrant apprehension, for any medical rescue purpose if requested by law enforcement. Responds to local hospitals requesting interfacility transport of a patient under hospital care. Participates in emergency rescue of patients in back country. Assists in orientating new employees in the Agency. Participates in a minimum of 15 hours of continuing education (or equivalent) each year. Observes, records, and reports to Physician patient's condition and reaction to drugs, treatments, and significant incidents. Communicates with professional medical personnel at emergency treatment facility to obtain instructions regarding further treatment and to arrange for reception of victims at treatment facility. Attends training and department meetings. Performs other related job duties as assigned

Salary Pay range: $51,072.24- $68,636.82 annual (hiring rate DOQE)

Qualifications High school diploma or general education diploma (GED); and six (6) months of Basic EMT Level II ALS experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Possession of a valid, State of Colorado driver s license. Requirement exists at the time of hire and as a condition of continued employment. EMT Intermediate Certification, BLS Certification, and First Aid certification required. IV, ACLS, PALS, and BTLS certifications preferred. The employee is required to travel extensively with some trips to locations outside of the County that may require overnight stays. Approximately 2-4 in state training sessions/meetings
