City of Hot Springs, Arkansas
TITLE: Office Clerk
DEPARTMENT: Solid Waste
PAY GRADE: 6
FLSA: Nonexempt
DESCRIPTION OF WORK
General Statement of Duties
Performs routine to moderately complex clerical work compiling records and drafting reports
relative to the Solid Waste Department.
Supervision Received
Works under close to general supervision of an administrative superior.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Assists in maintaining a system of accounting for customer monthly billings; maintains
administrative filing system, including commercial customer information pertinent to billing, and
service charges; collects cash from customers and prepares daily audit report for submission to
Finance; prepares daily bank deposit; handles phone calls and operates base radio station; relays
customer issues to appropriate supervisor; dispatches customer requests to appropriate
supervisor; weighs trucks and records related information on proper forms; inputs notes and
customer debits or credits to the account; schedules services for customers; prepares daily route
sheets; composes and prepares correspondence with customers and employees; performs related
work as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Working knowledge of commercial arithmetic and business English; working knowledge of
modern office procedures, practices and equipment; working knowledge of departmental
programs, policies and operations as applied to the work; skill in the use and care of standard
office equipment; ability to make computations and tabulations with speed and accuracy; ability
to read and interpret various computer printouts; ability to input billing information; ability to
maintain accurate billing records; ability to establish and maintain effective working
relationships; ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
Education
High school graduation or equivalent, including or supplemented by courses in general clerical
and commercial subjects.
Experience
At least three years in responsible clerical work including computer operation and bookkeeping.
Substitution
Any equivalent combination of education and experience.
