Reports To: Director of Laboratory Services & Laboratory Medical Director

Shift Work/Hours: Variable with on call responsibilities.

Under the supervision of the Director of Laboratory Services and the Laboratory Medical Director, the Laboratory Information Systems Analyst at Jennie Stuart Medical Center is responsible for maintaining laboratory information systems. This role involves analysis, design, and implementation, including data gathering and analysis of methods and procedures, operational instructions, systems testing, and end-user training.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the performance of the laboratory information system to ensure it meets departmental needs and regulatory requirements.

  • Implement all aspects of system requirements, including systems analysis, policy and procedure documentation, and system performance monitoring.

  • Monitor both instrument interfaces and interfaces with related hospital-wide computer systems.

  • Ensure optimal accuracy, appropriate data flow, and timely turnaround of results.

  • Ensure effective data retrieval and report generation systems.

  • Plan and forecast data needs.

  • Evaluate software and make recommendations regarding software upgrades.

  • Coordinate and execute testing for software upgrades with IT staff.

  • Work with clinical staff to identify functional capabilities of software applications.

  • Investigate system malfunctions and troubleshoot error sources.

  • Monitor specimen tracking capabilities from collection through disposal.

  • Assess reporting needs and ensure the department's report generation needs are met.

  • Perform daily maintenance on systems, including updating data dictionaries, reviewing system error logs, maintaining and building reports.

  • Resolve end-user issues and manage special projects requiring knowledge of LIS systems, including software upgrades and patches.

  • Validate the impact of upstream and downstream application changes.

  • Review and test all software and hardware changes.

  • Use computer applications or other automated systems such as spreadsheets, word processing, calendar, email, and database software in performing work assignments.

  • Access protected health information in accordance with departmental assignments and guidelines defining the level of access.

Required Experience

· Education

o Baccalaureate Degree and certificate from a NAACLS-accredited medical laboratory training program.

· Work Experience

o Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a MT/CLS in a clinical laboratory setting.

o Experience with information technology preferred.

· Licenses

o Certified as Medical Technologist, Clinical Laboratory Scientist, or equivalent through ASCP or a similar accrediting agency.
