Chief Operating Officer One (1) Position Available

Job Duties: Working as a strategic thought partner to the Director and CEO, the Chief Operating Officer (COO) is an integral part of the museum leadership team, with responsibility for the oversight of the Campus Operations (Security and Facilities), Information Technology, Finance, Human Resources, Visitor Engagement, Collections, and Earned Revenue (Shop and Caf) departments. They are responsible for the direct oversite of operational and financial strategies for HoMAs annual operating budget. The COO guides cross-functional teams and works to achieve institutional goals in a manner that promotes collaboration while recognizing and celebrating the efforts of dedicated and talented staff. Along with the Director and CEO and the Leadership Team, the COO helps lead the planning and overall management of HoMA, including the efficient development and implementation of its short and long-term strategic initiatives.

As HoMA approaches its centennial in 2027, it is poised to embark on a new chapter guided by a renewed vision and Strategic Plan that focuses on the Museums core purpose: to be a home for art and education that exists for the benefit of the entire community, presented in a setting that prioritizes beauty, harmony, and promotes learning, self-awareness, and connection. The Strategic Plan, along with a supporting Operational Plan that outlines major activities and timelines, provides the necessary structure and focus to carry HoMA through the next five years and beyond. Working in collaboration with the Director and CEO to champion and implement the Strategic and Operational Plan to streamline, unify and elevate the Museums daily operations is a core responsibility of this role.

Members of the Leadership Team at HoMA are expected to devote significant amounts of time and energy to the successful pursuit of their jobs. The COO must be prepared to work evenings and weekend hours on an occasional basis, in addition to fulfilling the performance obligations of a routine workday.

Minimum Requirements: Bachelor of Arts Degree in Art, Arts Administration, Art History, Museum Studies or related field or equivalent knowledge. Five years of related experience (within the last eight years) at a senior museum management level, or equivalent combinations of education and experience. Eight years of applied knowledge of professional museum principles, practices, and procedures at a museum of comparable or larger size than HoMA with both a local, national and international focus. Eight years of experience managing substantial departments, museum-wide projects, and program budgets with a track record of demonstrated success leading cross-functional teams to the successful attainment of measurable goals. Experience leading leadership teams to garner short term results and implement long term plans (eg. strategic plans) Experience in project planning, budgeting, definition of critical path dependencies, and organizational design for projects involving coordinated effort across teams dedicated to developing and delivering major museum capital projects. Experience must show strong knowledge of corporate and/or non-profit governance. Experience successfully designing and implementing a large-scale, comprehensive earned revenue strategy.
