Starting hourly rate range : $19.05 - 29.95 Per hour

Please note that hourly rates for this position are based on type of degree and expected date of graduation.

Canadian National Railway Company (CN) is looking for a highly motivated person to fulfill a full-time (40h/week) Intern Engineering Safety position in Homewood, IL from May – August 2025.

Job Summary

The Intern Engineering Safety is responsible for assisting in the improvement of safety programs, policies, and practices. The role will support the safety manager with various dimensions of workplace safety initiatives including risk assessments, job safety briefings, field verification, and hazard inspections, both in the field and in the office.

Major Responsibilities

  • Work with Engineering on Health and Safety Committees

  • Participate in field work safety observations, and documenting

  • Participate in exposure risk discussions, job safety briefings, field verification of critical controls and life critical rules, and hazard inspections

  • Assist in completing workplace inspection forms

  • Learn to prioritize and plan roll out strategies

  • Work with Engineering Safety on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) dashboard for Front Line Supervisors in Power BI

  • Learn the Hazard Prevention Program (HPP)

Requirements

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, and Word)

  • Knowledge in one or more of the following software’s: Access, SharePoint, Systems, Applications and Products (SAP), Enablon, Power BI, Tableau*

  • Knowledge of or interest in learning about Workplace Safety

Education

  • Working towards a Bachelor’s Degree (minimum 2 years completed) in Safety Management, Occupation Health and Safety, or Industrial Hygiene.

*Any experience/education/skills/knowledge for these above would be considered as an asset
