Ed Herrington Inc Lumber Building Material Purchasing Assistant in Hillsdale, New York

Ed Herrington Lumber is a six-location full-service lumber company looking for a Lumber and Building Materials (LBM) Purchasing Assistant. The LBM Purchasing Assistant will be assisting the Lumber and Building Materials department with administrative tasks as necessary to streamline processes and communication between the buyers, customers, vendors and accounting.

Location: Hillsdale, NY (In-Person Position)

Essential Duties and responsibilities include the following: (Other duties may be assigned)

  • Match and attach confirmations as well as add new item codes.

  • Follow up and process Return Merchandise Authorizations (RMA’s).

  • Monitor the processing of intake forms.

  • Timely placement of special orders when converted.

  • Verify that the special orders have Notice to Proceed (NTP) attached.

  • Assist with emailing individual Special Order quotes to multiple vendors.

  • Follow up on outstanding vendor quotes.

  • Update the primary vendors and contacts.

  • Update and maintain vendor contact information both in POS and our vendor/product excel sheet.

  • auto generate the min/max levels at all locations based on usage.

  • Displays teamwork and effort in performance of all duties.

Supports the goals and objectives of Ed Herrington, Inc. through adherence to company policies, safety guidelines, and work requirements for successful completion of all assignments.

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the essential duties of the job satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Education/Experience

Required: High School Diploma or GED.

Able to navigate and use vendor software when necessary. Having knowledge of general lumber products, and building supplies, is helpful. Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel also a plus

Language Skills

While performing the duties of this job the employee will need to frequently communicate with others and must be able to exchange accurate information

Mathematical Skills

High degree of match aptitude including the ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, board footage, rebates and percentages.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists resulting in a reasonable and accurate conclusion that can be well communicated. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Working & Physical Conditions

This position is a sedentary role with prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer; however, while performing the duties of this job the employee will need to frequently communicate with others and must be able to exchange accurate information; consistently operate a computer and other office equipment. The employee will need to occasionally move about to meet with sales staff, access files, and use other office equipment. Must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds; occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets.
