Matheny is a special hospital for children and adults with medically complex developmental disabilities. Our fully-accredited non-profit private school combines traditional academics with therapeutic intervention and pre-vocational skill development. Our Adult Services Program includes five licensed community residences/group homes and two adult learning centers. Staffed by experienced therapists and instructors, the program supports adult patients as they attain their highest level of functioning and integration into the community. Matheny's Arts Access program empowers individuals with disabilities to create art without boundaries. Through the use of innovative communication systems, the artists have complete freedom to explore a world that is defined only by their unlimited creativity and unique self-expression.

Matheny Medical and Educational Center has a career opportunity available for a Full Time Licensed Practical Nurse for our Adult Day Program. This position is Monday through Friday, 8am - 4pm.

Qualified candidates who are hired will receive aSigning Bonus of $3,000.00.($1,500.00 payable after completion of six months of continuous employment and the remaining $1,500.00 after completion of one year of continuous employment).

Duties of this position include:

  • Demonstrates effective assessment skills by collecting and analyzing data, interviewing, observing, and examining Matheny and community clients.

  • Carries out plan of care for all clients from Matheny and from the community.

  • Demonstrates critical thinking skills to determine appropriate nursing interventions and then reports to primary nurse or the community nurse.

  • Carries out all nursing/physician orders and documents nursing care and patient responses in accordance with hospital and Adult Day Health Services requirements.

  • Demonstrates proficiency in all fundamental LPN nursing skills.

  • Understands and carries out the roles and responsibilities of charge nurse when assigned.

  • Applies CDC Infection Control Guidelines for Standard Precautions and Transmission-Based Precautions and monitors infection control practices within the work environment.

  • Participates as a member of the interdisciplinary team by giving and receiving pertinent information to colleagues.

  • Maintains on-going and timely communication with Matheny Nurses, Community Nurses and family members from the community.

  • Demonstrates appropriate communication with patients with consideration of their age and functional levels.

  • Collaborates with primary nurses in the hospital and community on client care issues.

  • Develops strategies to address these issues in order to ensure continuity of care during program hours.

  • As an LPN in an Adult Day Health Services program, performance of additional responsibilities that are not outlined in this job description may be required in an emergency situation. When closure due to weather related issues occur, nurse may have to cover for staffing shortages at the hospital.

  • As an LPN any care planning must be co-signed by the RN; all vital signs and clinical data must be brought to the RN for review and assessment.

Position Requirements

Qualifications/Education:

  • Graduated from a certified LPN program in the state of NJ.

  • One year of experience working with people with developmental disabilities.

  • Experience with G Tube care, ostomy care, and car eof someone with seizures.

Licensure/Certifications:

  • Licensed Practical Nurse by the State of New Jersey Board of Nursing

  • Valid New Jersey Driver's License
