Performs and coordinates advanced transportation engineering operations or maintenance support work such as construction and/or complex maintenance contract inspection; light and heavy equipment operation; roadway maintenance; traffic control; helping the public during emergency situations; and training other employees. May serve as a lead worker. Employees at this level establish their own work plan and priorities to meet set objectives. Issues are rarely referred to the supervisor but are handled at the occurrence.Essential Duties:Administers construction and/or bridge inspection record-keeping activities in a District Area OfficeReviews and coordinates with area engineers on monthly and final estimates, field changes, supplemental agreements, extra work orders and revised estimates of quantitiesConducts tests of highway construction materials, makes calculations, and record resultsInspects barricades to ensure compliance with barricade standardsInspects construction and routine and non-routine contract maintenance methods and workmanship to ensure contractors build and maintain roadways, bridges, traffic signals and related highway structures in accordance with plans and specificationsInspects traffic control devices and their placement at construction project sites for compliance with specifications for devices, safety laws, rules, regulations and the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control DevicesMay serve as a lead worker and the related tasksMay train other employeesOversees complex maintenance and spot improvement contractsSands or cleans bridges and roads, posts warning signs, helps the public and performs other work as directed during emergency situations such as floods, tornadoes, hurricanes, snowstorms, accidents, and hazardous material spillsPerforms other job responsibilities as assigned
