Executive Director, Materials Management

The University of Miami/UHealth department of Supply Chain has an exciting opportunity for a Full Time Executive Director, Materials Management to work at the UHealth Medical Campus.

Core Summary

The Executive Director, Materials Management (H) leads the operational, financial, programmatic and personnel activities for Materials Management. This includes establishing, meeting, and continuously monitoring the goals and objectives while maintaining alignment with the strategic goals and objectives for UHealth. While the range of duties and responsibilities is broad and varied, the position's major responsibility is directing the day-to-day operations, budgeting, financial management, and human resource management. The Executive Director, Materials Management (H) works closely with a variety of stakeholders, coordinating the activities of Materials Management across the enterprise.

The Executive Director, Materials Management (H) serves as the programmatic and operational leader for Materials Management and is responsible to the Chief Supply Chain Officer and works closely with UHealth employees and leaders.

Core Responsibilities

  • Interprets impact of broad scope organizational change for staff and develops change strategies for successful implementation. Develops and manages operational initiatives with measurable outcomes.

  • Prepares and delivers reports to operational leadership outlining progress toward meeting annual goals and objectives, to include performance related to finance, clinical activity, quality, safety, marketing, and human resources.

  • Establishes annual financial goals and actively uses benchmarking to high performing systems in similar area of expertise to set annual targets. Establishes an annual operating and capital budget, demonstrating fiscal responsibility through meeting budget targets.

  • Monitors and analyzes financial data and utilizes for decisions regarding FTE’s, staffing and operational budget.

  • Creates business plan(s), justifying variances and analyzing cost benefit of programs.

  • Directs and provides guidance to managers to effectively allocate resources based on patient volume, space availability, budget constraints, and program priorities, goals and objectives.

  • Responsible for the administrative oversight of the assigned departments within the Supply Chain Services division’s daily operation to achieve quality improvement, fiscal productivity, and patient satisfaction goals and objectives.

  • Optimize relationships between UHealth and our key partners including GPO, distributors, and other aggregation opportunities. Engage physician leaders with procurement related decisions, and supply chain optimization.

  • Ensure proper utilization and optimization of data to establish proper controls and develop operational dashboards as well as other ad-hoc data requests and analysis required to support contracting, negotiations, and other analysis.

  • Develops and implements recruitment and retention strategies that support a culture of leadership. Interviews to select top talent, matching department needs with appropriate skill sets.

  • Assesses manager and staff development needs, identifies goals and provides resources. Identifies lack of competency in performance and establishes a plan which includes goals, interventions and measures.

  • Contributes to a learning environment by providing educational and research experiences to students, residents, fellows, and faculty.

  • Responsible for ensuring regulatory standards (TJC, AHCA, OSHA, and FDA) are continuously met and accreditation is achieved and in good standing.

  • Ensures internal control oversight and compliance with laws and regulations, safeguarding of assets, compliance with University policies and procedures, reliability of internal and external reporting, and efficiency and effectiveness of operations. Creates an effective control environment, conducts risk assessment, implements and monitors controls.

Core Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in business or healthcare.

  • 8+ years of related management experience.

  • Procurement, logistics, and operational experience in material management/supply chain required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Attitudes:

  • Knowledge of business and management principles.

  • Ability to direct, manage, implement, and evaluate department operations.

  • Ability to establish department goals and objectives that support the strategic plan.

  • Ability to effectively plan, delegate and/or supervise the work of others.

  • Ability to lead, motivate, develop and train others.

    Any relevant education, certifications and/or work experience may be considered.
