SUMMARY OF POSITION:
Assess and treat persons with hearing, balance, and related disorders, including fitting and servicing amplification. May perform research related to hearing problems.
Responsibilities
The percentage of time spent performing essential functions is 95%.
Qualified individuals must have the ability (with or without reasonable accommodation) to perform the following duties:
Maintain patient records at all stages, including initial and subsequent evaluation and treatment activities.
Evaluate and monitor hearing and balance disorders to determine diagnoses and courses of treatment.
Plan and conduct treatment programs for patients' hearing or balance problems, consulting with educators, physicians, nurses, psychologists, speech-language pathologists, and other health care personnel, as necessary.
Recommend, fit, dispense, and repair assistive devices, such as hearing aids, cochlear implants, and osseointegrated devices.
Counsel and instruct patients and their families in techniques to improve communication related to hearing loss.
Instruct patients, parents, teachers, or employers in communication strategies to maximize effective receptive communication.
Refer patients for additional medical or educational services, if needed.
Participate in the education and training of audiology interns and/or externs, ENT residents, APPs, and other relevant professional.
Participate in conferences or training to update or share knowledge of new hearing or balance disorder treatment methods or technologies.
Advise educators or other medical staff on hearing or balance topics.
NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES-
The percentage of time spent performing secondary functions is 5%.
The following duties are considered secondary to the essential duties listed above:
Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION(S):
Au.D. or Ph.D. in audiology, or master’s degree if allowed by grandfathering laws
Current license to practice audiology in Pennsylvania or PA license eligible and obtained within 6 weeks from date of hire.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATION(S):
- Experience with implantable devices, electrophysiology, and/or vestibular evaluations/treatment.
