The AWS Field Engineering organization provides engineering support for our data centers throughout their lifecycle. A critical piece of this support is ensuring the highest level of initial quality and ongoing support from our vendors. As a Supplier Quality Engineer you will interface daily with AWS Engineering teams, Procurement teams, and vendors to manage infrastructure equipment quality. Our Supplier Quality Engineer is responsible for supplier qualifications, quality monitoring at supplier sites, supplier quality issue resolution and supplier development and quality improvement initiatives.

In this role you will lead internal and external engagements with engineering, procurement, supply chain management, operations, finance, construction, and suppliers to deliver robust and resilient quality systems at our vendors and within AWS. You will identify supplier quality defects or waste in AWS processes, and drive new processes to eliminate the defects and prevent them from recurring without posing risk to availability.
Key job responsibilities
In this role your responsibilities include:
• Develop, implement and maintain the Supplier Quality roadmap for complex electrical and or mechanical infrastructure equipment to meet the technical and quality requirements.
• Manage complete equipment lifecycle quality, working closely with suppliers, engineering, procurement and other internal stakeholders.
• Responsible for improving equipment quality by identifying and closing gaps by performing thorough on-site audits to ensure suppliers' quality systems, products, and processes are meeting AWS Quality and product specification requirements.
• Drive Supplier Quality Improvement Programs track supplier performance along with goal settings for key performance indicators.
• Develop critical to quality parameters, perform critical-to-quality inspections and functional testing for complex equipment to ensure suppliers provide defect-free, high quality equipment to AWS and its customers.
• Review historical failures, equipment design changes and lessons learned to incorporate relevant inspections & tests and update equipment technical specifications.
• Lead complex electrical and mechanical infrastructure equipment as well as critical component(s) root cause analysis, working with suppliers, cross-functional teams such as reliability and design engineering teams.
• Responsible for evaluating and validating complex root cause analysis reports from a technical perspective using critical thinking and quality principles.
• Develop new product (equipment) and/or new supplier qualification plans in terms of quality. Drive the quality program from prototyping to mass production stage for complex electrical and mechanical equipment that are part of AWS Data Centers.
• Ability to perform data analysis on failures reported during the equipment life cycle and create technical reports to provide design and specification improvement inputs and to drive improvement(s) at supplier factories.
• Work on concurrent projects, sometimes in multiple geographical regions.
• Demonstrate a can-do attitude and thriving in a fast-paced work environment.
• Keys to success in this role include sound judgment and excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• This role requires 30-50% international and domestic travel.

Basic Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Physics, Mathematics, Electrical, Mechanical or Materials Engineering, or a related field.
8+ years of industry experience in construction, project management, manufacturing, or operations support.
8+ years in a quality management function with direct interaction with suppliers.
Preferred Qualifications
MS, PhD or advanced degree in engineering or other quantitative disciplines
Expert knowledge in manufacturing processes, ISO-9000, quality control plans and failure analysis or problem solving methodologies.
Six Sigma certification.
Lean certification.
Highly proficient in Excel and the creation of tables, data, dashboards, reports, including advanced analysis features.
Project Management experience.
Experience with data center operations and infrastructure equipment.
Ability in managing multiple qualification activities and development schedules.
Proven experience in working with external design and manufacturing supply chain partners.
