Army Tank-Automotive and Armament Command (TACOM) Welding Worker (Direct Hiring Authority) in Herlong Sierra Ordnance Depot, California
Summary About the Position: Sierra Army Depot is located in Herlong CA, a rural town in Northern California. Herlong is approximately 60 miles north of Reno, NV, and 35 miles south of Susanville, CA. The depot serves as an Army Expeditionary Logistical Support Center. Employees work Mon-Thurs, 0630-1700 hrs. Youth Facilities and childcare available. Mass transportation is available at minimal cost. Surrounding area boasts a full range of outdoor sports/recreation activities. Responsibilities Set up welding machines to perform welds in flat, vertical, horizontal, and overhead position depending on the process and requirements of the work. Perform inert gas shielded welding, i.e. MIG/TIG, in the repair, rebuild, or modification of bodies, chassis and parts of vehicle assemblies. Determine proper heat range necessary to weld, cut, bend and shape a variety of metals such as ballistic steel and aluminum, cast iron, cast steel, magnesium mild steel and stainless steel. Perform vehicle body repair work such as straightening metal structural and body parts. Fabricate less complex sheet metal items using equipment such as shears, band saws, box and pan brakes and drill presses. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Domestic Defense Industrial Base (DIB) & Major Range and Test Facilities Base (MRTFB) to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Welding Worker (Direct Hiring Authority) without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common duties which include setting up and operating various electric resistance welding machines; using one or more manual welding processes; and welding various metals to meet specifications. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Physical Effort: The work requires standing, walking, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, crawling and sometimes working in cramped and awkward positions. The work involves regular lifting, carrying and/or holding objects weighing from 20 to 50 pounds; and occasionally lifting objects weighing in excess of 50 pounds to set up work and equipment needed to complete tasks. Working Conditions: Welding and related work may be performed indoors or outdoors, sometimes in bad weather, in areas which are noisy, dirty or smoky. Work involves exposure to grease, fumes, heat, flying sparks or glare and may include exposure to infrared and/or ultraviolet radiation; as well as hazards from electric shock, burns, cuts, eye and other injuries. There is discomfort from wearing protective equipment such as goggles welding helmets, face shields, aprons, gloves or other protective clothing or equipment. Education Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. One year trial/probationary period may be required. Direct Deposit of Pay is required.
