Herkimer College seeks qualified applicants for a Senior Systems Programmer/Analyst (Banner).

The Senior Systems Programmer/Analyst is responsible for all aspects of developing, programming, maintaining, securing, testing, and implementing applications to support Ellucian Banner and other student information systems. Supports Oracle programming and basic database administration of the institutions Oracle databases. Works closely with various technical and functional departments, analyzing user needs and developing solutions to meet the users' requirements. Recommends future protocol to supervisor for strategic planning. Provides limited oversight of Systems Programmer/Analysts with respect to system analysis, design, programming support, project management, and professional development. The successful candidate will have advanced communication skills, as well as the ability to simplify complex technology concepts and to plan, prioritize, and seamlessly integrate all parts to deploy successful solutions.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

Demonstrate knowledge of the Ellucian Banner tables data structures related to Banner modules.

Writing programs, extracts, and reports according to the specifications and requirements.

Creating, delivering, and using API, XML, or flat files-based integration methodology.

Design, develop, modify, test, debug, and document programs, file structure, reports, processes, and procedures.

Provide programming support for student information systems, databases, and third-party applications/integrations.

Analyze user applications and programming requests and recommend solutions.

Maintain systems integrity, security, and patch management.

Assist with Help Desk requests where applicable.

Develop and conduct training sessions for new and existing users.

Provide guidance to Systems Programmer/Analysts with respect to project management, system analysis and design, programming, and professional development.

Delegate programming tasks to programming staff based on capabilities and experience.

Participate in technology related conferences, technical communication channels and professional development.

Maintain up to date knowledge and skill on current information technology systems as required.

Provides 24/7 support for all critical applications.

Assist the Network Administrator with the installation as it pertains to student information systems.

Manage the development of technical documentation and training for the institution.=

Assist the Director of Information Technology with programming budgets.

All other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in computer science (or related field) with 3 years of relevant experience OR equivalent education and experience.

Experience with SQL-based languages.

Experience with developing and maintaining process automation.

Experience or coursework with Bash and Perl scripting.

Familiarity with Unix/Linux/Windows operating systems.

Experience with writing technical specifications.

Experience with project planning and management.

Ability to work independently and direct others.

Ability and motivation to stay current on and learn technology related to the position.

Excellent verbal communication, problem solving and organizational skills.

Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with Ellucian Banner and Banner Self-Service or other Oracle databases.

Knowledge of Ellucian Banner database schema and tables.

Experience using PL/SQL and various enterprise level applications and programming languages.

Basic knowledge of web and application development.

Basic knowledge of identity management and systems security.

Experience working in Higher Education.
