Job Description:

Herkimer College is actively seeking qualified applicants for a full-time Assistant Director of Marketing and Communications.

The Assistant Director is a lead communicator and storyteller responsible for advancing visibility of the College in the marketplace. The position is responsible for developing compelling written and visual content for a variety of audiences and platforms. This position contributes to a high-quality service work environment that supports all functional areas of the institution and helps advance a dynamic and inclusive campus culture.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Research, identify and secure proactive opportunities for favorable news and editorial coverage for the institution. Monitor, assess and report on news and editorial coverage impact and reach.

  • Research, identify and write informative, relevant, impactful, persuasive content in support of marketing and communications efforts for a variety of paid, owned, and earned media, and publish content through a variety of media channels including, but not limited to, print publications, blogs, newsletters, news releases, websites, videos, signage, and social media platforms.

  • Oversee and execute social media strategy, planning, engagement, and content creation. Monitor engagement, analyze metrics, and respond to comments/messages as appropriate. Keep up to date with social media methods and trends in order to identify, research, and propose new initiatives.

  • Guide other departments on their social media strategies to ensure they follow best practices and that their presence aligns with the college brand and messaging platforms.

  • Assist with website content management to ensure accuracy and relevancy, optimize SEO, and maintain accessibility compliance.

  • Assist with planning, executing, and promoting events such as focus groups, press conferences, award presentations, ribbon cuttings, dedications, etc.

  • Supervise student content creators to ensure alignment with established brand and messaging guidelines.

  • Participate in development and assessment of the Office of Marketing and Communications department operational plan and budget.

  • Participate in campus governance through committee service.

  • Other projects and assignments as assigned by the Director of Marketing and Communications.

Requirements:

Minimum Required Experience and Educational Credentials:

  • Bachelor's degree required in public relations, communications, marketing, journalism, or closely related field. Master's degree preferred.

  • Proven professional experience in public relations, communications, marketing, journalism, or closely related field.

  • Experience managing professional social media accounts.

  • Experience writing for traditional print, digital and social channels.

  • Experience working in a demanding work environment with multiple and changing priorities and deadlines.

Additional Information:

Salary Range: $47,916 - $71,874, based on qualifications and experience.
