Summary

The Commercial Lender is responsible for contributing to department's growth and profitability with extensive focus on business development activities. Employee develops and retains business relationships by meeting the financial services needs of commercial businesses. Additionally, successfully manages a portfolio of commercial banking relationships.

Employee will have extensive contact with customers, vendors, the general public, and bank staff and will interact in a professional and courteous manner and conduct him/herself in such relationships in a manner that will enhance the overall efficiency and image of the bank

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Sales- 50%

  • Reinforce business customer relationship by analyzing existing customers' needs and recommend the appropriate products/services both in person and on the telephone.
  • Develop and grow new business relationships by actively prospecting new customers, following up on referrals and engaging with customers in the lobby as needed. Engage and actively profile customers to provide complete solutions to meet all customers' needs.
  • Sell commercial banking products and services to customers/prospects through profiling and analyzing customer needs and recommends appropriate products.
  • Contribute to meeting the sales/marketing goals of other departments and partners such as Personal Banking and Real Estate by identifying and referring customers and prospects.

Loans - 30%

  • Actively growing and administer a loan portfolio of business customers by continually profiling existing customers, leveraging referrals, and independently seeking new business relationships.
  • Work with the credit department to perform credit analysis/loan underwriting to determine appropriate credit worthiness and loan structure. Approve loans within established lending limits or make recommendations to appropriate supervisor or loan committee.
  • Proactively work the maturing loans in your portfolio in a timely manner. Continually monitor each loan in your portfolio to ensure loan is appropriately risk rated as confirmed by examiners.
  • Administration of problem credits. Closely monitor the status of classified/criticized loans. Closely follow the action plans developed to upgrade credits. Recognize potential charge-offs in a timely manner.

Customer/Employee Relations - 20%

About You

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 4-year college degree or equivalent work experience
  • 5-years retail lending experience

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, ABILITY:

  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Working knowledge of lending practices.
  • Knowledge of Valley Bank products/services to effectively present appropriate solutions to customers
  • Ability to maintain professionalism with disgruntled customers
  • Work quickly and accurately using various applications.
  • Knowledge of structure loans that deviate from the normal process.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments, and the public.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Must be able to routinely perform work indoors in climate-controlled shared work area with moderate noise.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Typical office environment with extensive keyboarding requirements and be able to operate routine office equipment. Routinely perform work on computer for an average of 6-8 hours per day.
