Amentum Mechanical Engineer in Hawthorne, Nevada

Amentum is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our team in Hawthorne, Nevada to support the Hawthorne Army Depot. The Mechanical Engineer will directly interface and liaison with customers at all levels from quotation to final design and test activities.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Participate in contract solicitation, bid review, award, and pre-work activities. Assure contract documents (e.g. signed drawings, purchase requests, submittal listings, etc.) are promptly prepared, executed and delivered.

  • Review contract submittals for compliance with contract specifications. Inspect project site and evaluate contractor compliance with contract requirements. Oversee activities of project inspectors to assure regular and accurate daily inspection of contractor work.

  • Perform a range of design development, analysis or review tasks under some supervision.

  • Confer with customer/supervisor to determine project details, such as scope of work, timing of work, phasing requirements, plan preparation, acceptance issues, special conditions, or other matters.

  • Assess customer needs/requirements and analyze proposed site factors to scope work and prepare concept design strategies.

  • Prepares drawings, specifications, schedules and cost estimates for design projects.

  • Directs inspectors in construction management activities. Solves construction issues as they arise.

  • Develops engineering standards for installation facilities construction.

  • Evaluates plans/criteria and completes special analyses supporting engineering efforts accomplished by others. Provides technical expertise on a variety of engineering activities.

  • Develop plans for installation of systems, utilization of facilities, or construction of structures that comply with programmed scope and costs

  • Draft/supervise drafting of detailed plans and construction documents. Assure drawings are prepared in compliance with appropriate drawing (tri-service) standards. Prepare detailed statements of work for construction projects.

  • Determine material quantities, labor requirements and other factors, and use such information in preparing detailed, accurate projections of construction costs. Prepare documents presenting costs for use in programming projects, preparing budgeting plans and assessing validity of contractor bids.

  • Assure complete and appropriate project closeout, including fiscal closeout, as built and record drawing completion, etc.

  • Investigate existing conditions of structures or systems to assess their adequacy/suitability for use. Conduct testing and analyses, using tools and equipment, and applying engineering knowledge.

  • Generate sections of design specifications of more complex projects or complete specifications of less complex projects.

  • Establish and maintain a filing system or databases as needed for tracking project status.

  • Develop, maintain and produce technical documentation and system/subsystem specifications.

  • Direct interface and liaison with customers at all levels from quotation to final design and test activities, design reviews and technical working group meetings to comply with requirements and specifications.

  • Conduct site visits and investigate engineering problems, propose solutions and alternatives, and provide recommendations.

  • Verify and comply with engineering documentation standards and test procedures. Prepare reports and document project activities and data.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

  • A Bachelor of Science (BS) degree from an accredited college or university in an engineering, scientific, or technical discipline.

  • Three (3) years professional technical experience which includes at least one (1) year specialized experience performing mechanical, electrical, or computer engineering.

  • SOLIDWORKS, Inventor, 3D CAD, Weapons System experience.

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering with some applicable design experience required.

  • Possess analytical abilities necessary to handle extremely complex administrative, organizational, and contract matters.

  • Have a basic knowledge of computers-able to input and extract data, prepare briefings, transmit documents.

  • Possess excellent oral, written, and communication skills; Able to address a variety of audiences.

  • Able to give attention to detail and execute on multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

  • Able to deal with customers and company employees in a courteous, professional, and effective manner.

  • Valid State Drivers’ License required.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret US Government Clearance. Note: US Citizenship is required to obtain a Secret Clearance.
