Amentum Equipment Operator in Hawthorne, Nevada

Amentum is seeking an Equipment Operator to join our team in Hawthorne, Nevada to support the Hawthorne Army Depot. The Equipment Operator maintains ditches, roadbeds, shoulders, and firebreaks on the compound.

Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret US Government Clearance. Note: US Citizenship is required to obtain a Secret Clearance.

Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Operates tractors, graders, scrapers, backhoes, road sweepers, front end loaders, asphalt spreaders, rollers, and bulldozers to punch, cut, move, dig, grade, and roll earth, sand, stone, and other materials.

  • Performs rough grading of earth to general contour desired in addition to fine surfacing on flat or rolling terrain.

  • Maintains ditches, roadbeds, shoulders, and firebreaks.

  • Builds and maintains roads and parking lot surfaces.

  • Breaks and clears ground for buildings or construction work.

  • Cuts, fills, and grades surfaces.

  • Compacts soils to exact specifications.

  • Shoulders roads and prepares roadbed to exact specifications for railroad repair work.

  • Digs trenches to slope and grade for pipe and power line work.

  • Operates equipment close to buildings, lightning rods, pipes, trees, and drop-offs.

  • Reads and understands Task Hazard Analysis for identifying risks to health and safety during job specific tasks in the workplace.

  • Responsible for reporting potential real environmental concerns to the Environmental Service.

  • Follows oral or written instructions, accomplishes work assignments without direct supervision.

  • Perform all work safely and with the utmost concern for the safety of self and other employees.

  • Perform all work in compliance with environmental permits and regulations.

  • Be at work when scheduled and maintain a good attendance record. May be required to work overtime.

  • Performs other duties of the same or lower level of difficulty as assigned.

  • May be assigned occasional duties of a higher level of difficulty than those listed above.

  • Remains alert for hazards involved in operating heavy equipment and observe safety and operating regulations.

Minimum Qualifications :

  • Must be 18 years or older with High School Diploma or equivalent.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid State driver’s license.

  • Minimum four (4) years as an apprentice or three (3) years as a heavy equipment operator or three (3) years combined experience highly desirable.

  • Class A CDL with Tanker endorsement required.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret US Government Clearance. Note: US Citizenship is required to obtain a Secret Clearance.

  • Must also be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate level of government security clearance as well as a clearance through the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms and be favorably vetted through the NCIC III System.

  • Good writing and verbal communication skills.

  • Must be able to operate a computerized based terminal.

  • Must be computer literate in common software applications and able to operate general office equipment.

  • Must maintain fitness-for-duty standards to perform the essential functions of the position, to include any HWAD drill, contingency and/or emergency requirement.

  • Must be able to work in a constant state of alertness in a safe manner. Perform safety sensitive duties.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain all certifications as required by the Master Training Plan.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Certifiable technical or trade schooling in the operation of Heavy Equipment, highly desirable.

This position is designated as a safety sensitive position and is subject to the requirements of the HWAD Medical Surveillance Plan and Matrix and the HWAD A&D Program. As a condition of employment, candidates and incumbents must favorably complete a personnel security investigation, drug testing, medical exam and respiratory screening, and must meet and maintain personnel suitability and reliability requirements established by 29 CFR and Army Regulations: AR 190-11, AR 190-13 and DOD Contractor Safety Manual 4145.26.
