Actalent Assistant Project Manager- Animal Resources in Havre De Grace, Maryland

Job Title: Assistant Project Manager- Animal ResourcesJob Description

We are seeking an Assistant Project Manager with experience in the proper care and maintenance of on-site animals. The Assistant Project Manager provides support in leading team members in the delegation and completion of tasks, and communicates deliverables to team members and the management team. The work schedule is from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, Monday through Friday. Additional hours or weekends may be required during emergencies or unexpected situations.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the cagewash team and ensure that animals are cared for and maintained in accordance with Animal Welfare Regulations, U.S. Public Health Service Policy, and the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals.

  • Supervise and direct daily activities of project staff to ensure that all required functions are carried out appropriately.

  • Oversee daily laboratory animal procedures including receiving, feeding, watering, cleaning, sanitizing, handling, restraint, health surveillance, and manipulations.

  • Manage equipment maintenance and other contract-related duties.

  • Follow-up on staff schedules to meet routine and emergency needs of the animals.

  • Ensure compliance with all SOPs, quality assurance guidelines, and protocols.

  • Develop and revise all animal facility Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) with review and approval of the client designee(s).

  • Report any abnormal conditions of the animal facility to the client designee(s).

  • Generate oral or written reports, records, charts, logs, schedules, and inventories to the client designee(s) as requested or required by the contract.

  • Order and maintain supply and equipment inventories.

  • Communicate needs for facility equipment, logistical support, and management to the client designee.

  • Provide service and advice to investigators on executing their protocols.

  • Deliver program management support to multiple animal facility and holding sites.

  • Coordinate training activities with the Project Manager, Contract Manager, and client personnel.

  • Communicate facility operations with the Project Manager and Contract Manager.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the contractor.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Associate degree in life sciences field preferred.

  • Minimum 4 years of experience in laboratory animal science.

  • Minimum 2 years of supervisory experience.

  • LATG certification required, additional certifications preferred.

  • Accurate lab record keeping skills.

  • Ability to train staff in techniques and procedures.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Knowledge of operational principles behind the techniques and procedures used.

  • Ability to communicate project information with principal investigators.

Work Environment

The work environment is an animal research lab. Although the primary location is in Havre De Grace, a significant portion of the work will be conducted at the NIH in Bethesda. The facility operates within a regulated environment, adhering to specific guidelines to ensure the humane care and use of laboratory animals.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $28.84 - $31.25
